Sonix7: Best Damn DIY FD carpet **LOTS OF PICS**

Alright because of all the talk of replacement carpet and the failed GB and my need for a custom color of carpet. I took it upon myself to handle the swap. I got some awesome help from Fritts, thanx man. I stripped the whole interior including dash and went ahead and assembled a list of things I was going to need. I will get into that here in a bit. I ordered 2 yards of olefin cut pile carpet from a place up in the NW called Perfect Fit https://www.perfectfit.com/product.asp?Product_id=154081&d_id=15270&l2=15270& l1=15269
Anyway I got the color I needed so I then got a list of supplies. I needed adhesive, so I got Permatex Body Shop Headliner adhesive, weatherstrip adhesive and really that was all I used. I then also got some carpet seam tape, a seam roller and carpet knife from Home depot. That was about $100 total.

First thing was to remove the old carpet and rubber backing.

then I had to seperate the carpet from the rubber backing and place the carpet backing/pad back in the car

Then I took the 2 yards of carpet and layed it out in the car.

Thats when I took the carpet knife and started to trim to fit.

Now once I got the carpet laid out I basically used the carpet seem roller to flatten it out. I lifted up the carpet and sprayed the permatex and also brushed on the weatherstrip adhesive. Then I fit the carpet into the right grooves. Ther are a few seems but very good results so far. I have not steamed it or vacuumed and finished it off. I did the actual carpet and gluing in about 2 hours max this afternoon. More to come.

nope, you really have to mold it into the floor plan. I did take it out and try and do some more pressing down on it but ultimately it works better inside the car. Steaming it will get it to lay perfect, but right now its damn nice. I just need to finish and get the interior finished. It is a bit of work, but beats paying $800? Here is another angle.

So basically, you just stretch it to fit?? Seems way "easier" than I ever thought it would be. Any more details?

Great job btw.

Do you have to take the entire dash out to do it or can you work around without taking it out? Im gona be doing my sound deadening in the cabin soon so if you can do it without taking the dash out i might aswell do the carpet at the same time

I have some areas that I would have taken a little more time on to get it better if I did it again. I also had trouble with some of the seems. You do have to cut some seems! Experience would have really helped. Although, most of the seems are under existing interior panels and hid really well. I should have pics of the Sonix7 FD3S here in a couple of days. Finally after like two years. No one has really seen mine except when it was stock. I am excited to show my customizing capabilities. Its all just reliving an old highschool dream anyway. LOL

Looks good I just did my own carpet on my FD (black) and it came out pretty freakin good I will post pics as soon as I get a good camera. It only cost me $33 in material but it was a headache to do.
