Shaved Doors (Kit specs for 1st gen)

Since I'm about to bodywork, repaint, and re-rubber the car, I thought instead of replacing rusty door locks and mismatching door handles I would opt for keyless entry. Since I am anti-alarm (so many bad experiences!) guy, I am considering a Shaved Door Handle kit. However, I have no experience with these and from the various things I've read, it looks easy, straight forward, and low on the tool requirement side (no welding...). Any ideas if something like the below product would work on our car?

http://www.slickcar.com/productdetai...ProductID=3728

My 2 main concerns are
1) Is a 40lb popper gonna rip our door off. =)
2) Do these kits really just strap on or is welding more of the standard?

I plan to "pop" both doors and the trunk if that matters.

I can't believe this is a $150 option, seems too good to be true!

that is pretty much how it works.. theo nly htink you would want to weld is the door handles to get rid of them.. all the kit will do pop it open and you are left with leaving the handlses and lock or removing them..

on a side note if you remove everything.. be on the safe side and wire up a safty in case your batt dies in the car... or you will have no way in the car

also the 40lbs popper will only pop the door poen about 2inch so yo
u are safe

Yeah, if I were doing it I would leave the hatch with the normal key so that if the battery died or something failed I could crawl in through the back and I wouldn't be stranded.

I don't really have the option of climbing through the hatch.
Pretty sure the rollbar is staying. In my time of owning the car, I have gone is spells with it in and out. It's a bolt in so not much to taking it out or putting it in other than ~20 big *** bolts.

Please forgive the torn apart interior. Doing some serious overhauling in there.

Good idea. I have the original key (just one) so I'm kind of fond of it. Part of me wants to use it but part of me wants to keep it safe somewhere. If I don't end up using it, I was thinking keyless entry (thus this thread) accompanied by a push button starter. So, there would be no need for me to carry the key.

I would probably just hide the door popper switch...

Here is a picture of my shaved door locks. I just purchased a universal keyless entry kit off of ebay and made it work. I actually wrote a bit of a write up on it in the archives. It works excellently, but I did still keep the key for the hatch (I also have a roll bar but crawling through the back is a last resource).

I didn't go for a shaved door handle kit for a few reasons. I personally don't feel they match the styling of the car... Also you can't participate in alot of racing if you don't have door handles (the biggest reason hands down). It's kind of like lamborghini doors, completely pointless...

Just b/c you can't climb in through the hatch, doesn't mean you can't give a kid a quarter to do it for you. At least keeping the hatch key hole will give you some options.

correct me if im wrong but if your far enough out to consider stranded and you have a dead battery... what good would being able to get into the car do?other than save you from the cayotes

remove the OEM hood latch and install some hood pins so you dont have to get inside the car to pop the hood. that way you can jumper the battery and pop your doors.

Good idea, but only if you don't have anything under your hood that can be stolen. Theives will take whatever they can get their grubby lil hands on, (trust me, they took two empty boxes from behind my car) and sometimes ruin whats left. Just try relocating the hood pop handle to outside the car, maybe under the inner fender liner. Hey maybe I'll try that. That idea just popped into my head.
