ok heres the skinny

89 gtu, with factory stereo harness.
got the metra adapters to my alpine head unit.

everything plugs in supersweet. grounded to the 12mm bold on the side of the console. turn key to ACC, bam. head unit comes to life beautifully.

turn on the radio to test, nothing. no sound.
assumed it was the stock amps doing whatever they do to aftermarket heads and not playing sound (p.s. im not a stereo wiring guy, it baffles me).

so i grabbed a spare speaker, ran wires to the speaker, and jammed them into the harness coming out of the head unit. no sound. nothing, not even a crackle or pop.

what am i doing wrong?

 

disconnect all the speakers from the deck and then check with your test speaker for output. if there is output will all of them disconnected check all the speakers and make sure none of the speaker terminals are touching metal (ground). if one speaker wire is touching metal none of the speakers will play.

 

yea im already trying it with the speaker harness unplugged... nothing

ok has anyone successfully installed an alpine head in an s5 using wiring adapters and not hacking the harness?
