SALE of HIDS to become Illegal 8/15

I posted this in the interior section already. I just wanted to give the 2nd generation crew a heads-up as well (just in case you don't usually go to the interior often).

here's the link:

I want to see an actual ruling, posted by the DOT (or other governing boards).

Yup I agree, I want to see an official post somewhere. To me it almost sounds like a sales pitch to help move his inventory!

Although I don't like staring down a set of HIDs I know that they provide more light, but what ever, there will always be a way to get them here, either from a junk yard or ship them from out of the Countntry.
Good point guys, but at those price he isn't making too much of a profit (basing that on how much other HID kits cost). It doesn't sound to unrealistic cuz DOT says stupid **** liek this all the time.
Remember in the 80's when some dude got fairly close to making a law that required motorcycles to have seat belts?

I searched the US DOT site and could not find anything. The do receive a lot of complaints about auxillary lights.

Hopefully, they will outlaw all the 'poser' HID lights that are sold everywhere.

But, then they are already illegal ......

those fake "xenon" blue halogen bulbs make more glare than a good HID headlight. If its adjust properly, it shouldn't make any glare, actually less.

But HID provides so much powerful useable light, it is really stupid to ban it, actually I think it is safer since u can see more on the road. What are they going to do with all of those factory equipped HID highlight like BMW, Audi, Acura, and Lexus?

if you read the other thread with the info, you would see that this "supposed" ban will only aply to aftermarket vnedors/kits.

none of the aftermarket kits were ever legal.

most kits use H4 lenses, which are DOT for H4 bulbs, but not for HID ones. you need a kit which the bulb and lens are aproved for each other. this kit has never been made.

as posted a bit further down

"All HID kits were already illegal to have.. no change there.. they just decided to stick it to us by making them illegal to SELL. Therefore, it ends the issue on their end."

I just bought a sealed beam HID set from Sylvania for my FC and it is a true HID and is legal. The set is a Sylvania Xenarc HID X6054 Sealed Beam Upgrade Kit. I have installed it but not tried em out yet as I have no engine or battery in the car yet.

I love HIDs, I don't understand a lot of the reasoning behind making them illegal.

****, if that's true it'll make the theft of HIDs worse than the problem it already is.

Insuring later-gen Maximas is a big pain because the HIDs aren't locked in and they get stolen constantly.

the main complaint is that it is too hard to see when you have an oncoming vehicle with (albeit poorly adjusted) HIDs. The glare and simply the amount of light is tough, especially for older drivers.

7's don't have much to worry about though, since we have pop-up headlights.

I'm still getting my knightsports HID headlights though...
