I've been running mine for a year without pins. I was more concerned about how flimsy it was without the internal skeleton in the middle of the hood. I had the body guys reinforce it with some fiberglass rope when I was getting it painted.
In general I think hood pins are good idea, but I just can bring myself to run them. Even some of the newer low profile pins just ruin the look for me.
