i feel ya man, but for me, the ls1 is the way to go or i sell the car. The rotary engines **** me off, yeah yeah flame on claiming i dont know how to wrench or maintain them or i dont understand them, i did all the secrets, followed it textbook style, i know loads of info on that engine, and she still blew. bad gas, improper rebuild, air in the lines, improper a/f's whatever the combo, it went none the less. Im not the only one this happens to, kinda happens all too frequently on this board...
Installing the LS1 doesnt change the chassis code by any means, it wont be a rotary expirement anymore because the i put the ka-bosh on the expirement.
In a sense you could be right, it isnt a
FD - ******* Disaster
it will be somewhere along the lines of
FFR - ******* Fast & Reliable
Whatever the name,,,, i love my Rx7 or V8-7 or FD3s or whatever you think you can call it since i'l have a V-8 in it. I like the styling, handling, interior design, everything about it, except its OEM powerplant. All i want to do it drive it, i dont want to start a 13b Vs Ls1 debate here, just explaining my reasons.
For the record, that 3-d mock up car is rediculous. Whos design was that?

 

Not Mine, but I started looking for a descent model, when I was looking to fab some add-ons for paint schemes, or body pieces, and I wanted a clean base to start from, but everybody who makes an RX-7 Model makes it with Veilside kits and the bumpers are some of the toughest parts to model other than the side fender with that vent
But I came across this in a search on www.cgtalk.com just search for rx7... if you're interested...

BTW, I am making my own, but it's not nearly ready for primetime....

 

I have to agree with Black Magic on this one. BTW, I love the rear end on the model but the front definitely belongs in this thread.

 

Black Magic, don't get me wrong, I def. wasn't trying to start the rotary vs. ls1 debate. I even agree w/ you that the ls1 is prob a hell of a lot more reliable. I just think doing that takes away the soul of the car. That, and it kinda takes the fun out of all the 1001 midnight crises you have w/ FDs acting up haha

Unfortunately, you're also right about waay too many FDs losing their engines on this board. I'd still maintain that the FD is pretty reliable if left completely stock (minus some reliability upgrades hahaha). It's when we're trying to squeeze every drop of hp we can outta these babies that they go pop!

I see your point, and I agree w/ it to an extent...but then again, there are some things you just don't do to your car. Lets say, it doesn't take much to beat the pink FD w/ veilside kit and lambo doors. Hell, if I only had a bike, I'd still think my bike was hotter than that car.

Oh, and there's no "skill" or "talent" involved in slamming your FD, and putting 22s on it. Not only is it distasteful, but it's quite frankly retarded. And it doesn't take you having a hot 7 (or a 7 at all even) to tell that was a definite no-no.

But like you said, there will always be jerks who joan on anything and everything, regardless of how it looks, while they got a rusted chevy chevette in their driveway...

Yeah, i saw that and was like, OK, WTF is that car doin in this thread, i dont like fogs on the FD, but the car is clean, tasteful, and doesnt beling in this thread. Someone just had to be an *** i guess for no good reason,,, or it was an owner of a ugly FD and wanted to do some reverse phsycology...

My car has been posted too, and yes, I think it is much better than these shitmobiles in this thread. Small modification is OK, but when you start going F117-stealth-retarded-looking, you need a labotomy.

 

Thats not what I said genius. I didn't say somebody would take a porsche look-alike kitted FD to a porsche club meet...

I said, nobody would do something stupid to their porsche (or any other decent high-end sportscar) like put some jacked up riceboy shogun super gee whizz body kit that borrows headlights from some other make of car (whatever it is)... and then take it to their car club and not get laughed at (because educated grown men who know better would be there).... SO, if folks are interested in preserving any sort of prestige or stature in the car community for the FD, they might refrain from doing such things to it... it makes us all look bad.

In other words, nobody spends money on nice cars to make them look like other cars, and the RX7 doesn't need it (90% of the other fiberglass **** people hang on them) either. Its already a great design.

And sorry because i'm a professional designer and i'm pulling rank on you. That green car looks like *** and makes me think somebody gave a visa gold card to a 13 year old. Its ridiculous along with most all the other cars in this thread.

Frankly I made this thread to laugh at people with too much money and not enough sense. And Most people who have been "around the block" on this forum, know what's acceptable, and what's rediculous, even if taste is a personal matter.

And Yes Fumanchu was beeing a smartass, since he had (past tense) a very Stock Auto FD, and was in the process of doing some of the very same things I had done..

I can pretty much GUARANTEE you that a modified 7 rolling up to a Porsche meet would simply command attention and respect, even though some Porsche owners might still think they have a better car. Now if you had a RX7 that's a Porsche lookalike, they'd be laughing off their rocker, and you'd only boost their egos into thinking they got the better ride.

DCrosby, I think it's safe to say the vast majority of us know what your aim was by starting this thread, and most of the cars in it hit the mark (yours not included of course haha).

I have the RE diffuser pro replica from Chuck on my FD...i think it's very functional. So is the scoot hood. I'm just not particular to how the scoot hood looks...i think it's too much goin on... (I coulda sworn you used to have the scoot hood on your FD, didn't you?)

but it seems rice just like taste is something people have a very strong oppinion on, and nobody can draw you a clearly defined map... to a bunch of people my Efini Badges, are RICE, since it's not an Efini. Some people hate the scoot hood, yet others describe body panels that have no aerodynamic function as rice, yet a big GT spoiler is Rice, even though it does have a significant function. For every rule there's an exception, and Unless something is bone stock people will find fault with it, and even if it's bone stock people will tell you to mod this and reliablility upgrade that.

I realized a long time ago, that you have to make yourself happy, and asking oppinions about body kits etc.. is a fruitless battle.

DCrosby, I know what you're saying. I've realized the same thing too. I don't think the scoot hood is rice though... (my definition of rice being non-functional junk). It's obviously very functional, but I think it messes up the nice smooth lines of the car. It's a little over the top for me (overkill, if you will). To each his own though, right?

I have a big GT spoiler, and I get called on it ALL the time. But like you said, it is FULLY functional, and I notice how stable my car is w/ the spoiler, front undertray, and rear diffuser. Need all the stability you can get when you regularly do 140mph pulls haha

 

I dont get how people get so bent out of shape because of one remark. Someone thought the "porsche" RE car was ugly and someone else didnt...Big deal. I personally like it. I think the List of Shame should include an R Magic widebody.

Boxters are fast. 928s are reliable. 914s are beautiful.
