Replacing my front quarters with fiberglass recreations (FC)

I've gotton pretty decent w/ handeling fiberglass and both my front quarters are being eaten from the inside. I was think of pulling them off, adhering wax-paper to them, and laying fiberglass right over the existing piece and using the new fiberglass pieces in.

What kind of disadvatages to this am I looking at? I know I'll be shaving weight off, which is a good thing, but is there something bad I'm not thinking about. The only thing I could think of is if a rock hits it hard enough, that little lip behind the tire could get a hole knocked in it. I've had a small rock do that in the rear before (I had to rebuild the portion behind the tires from scratch with fiberglass.), but it's really nothing that big.

Thanks for any advice!
