Arrow Repainting white wheels

I have a set of glossy white wheels I'd like to repaint a different color. I have been told that paint will not stick to the glossy finish that is on there now. Will sanding be good enough or will I need to chemically strip the wheels?

I think sanding will work fine.

If the original paint is on nice and solid and not peeling or blistering at all, then all you have to do is break the shine with a good 400-600 grit and you will be fine.

If the tires are off, I would see if anyone around has a sandblaster you could use.

The wheels are brand new, I just cant put white wheels on a grey car. Ill do this. Sandblasting is my next route if this first attempt doesnt go well.
