Question Primering

Hi, so I'm planning to paint my own headlight cover because the paint is chipping and is almost gone. So after I sanded down the covers, how long do I wait after applying the primer before the actual paint?

please help me out, this is my first time using primer and sanding. thanks

if you're using spray paint primer..... follow directions.

if using professional primer.... talk to a local painter.

from my experience with the aerosol primer, i wait about 4-6 hours. using 2-3 coats with 1hr between coats 1 and 2 and a 15min "flash" between 2 and 3. let it sit overnight, sand with 600-800 grit paper and you're ready to spray color

to even out the coat. no matter what, whenever paint is sprayed, it doesnt go on steady or smooth. if you dont sand between primer and paint, you will have MASSIVE orange peel.

yup. try some 1500 grit and some soap when you wetsand. be careful not to break through the primer though.
