recs for a small sub for fc?

I'm looking for a small sub to put in my 90 gxl. Just something to provide some decent clear punchy bass. I'm not looking for thundering earth-shattering bass or anything. I'd also prefer not to use up too much space. So basically I'm looking for something versatile, with good sound quality.

I was looking at the basslink II for a while, but I havent been able to actually listen to it yet. It seemed like an attractive option being small, powered, and in the $250-300 range (crutchfield has it from 'scratch and dent' for 279 and it comes with the free 50Wx4 amp module)

But people say that they can build better sub/amp/enclosure combos for the same price. I'm having a hard time seeing how this can be done, unless I just buy parts from wal-mart or something. I'm pretty new to subs so any suggestions would be appreciated.

get two of these:

run them paralelled for a 2ohm load on this:

and build your own box.

that's what I am doing when I get my vert.
they'll easily tuck away in the trunk off to one side. fiberglass FTW!

it wont blow your brains out but it will fill in the lows that door and headrest speakers can't handle. and give you a little bump while it's at it.

that's that come to then? $55+$92= $147 + maybe $20 in parts to build the box. You're way under budget AND it'll sound twice as good as the basslink.

I like my 50amp 8" Bazooka tube. Built in amp, kicks enough and tight enough for the sharp bass. Only about 20" long and maybe 1' diameter, I picked mine up for <$100 at Circuit City. You just need to pick up some RCA wires, 12g or 10g wire for the power (and remote on if you go that way) and set it up. I have it positioned behind my driver's seat since I'm not that tall and I have a Corbeau bucket and I need all my hatch space. You could put it in the hatch area too, it just needs to be pointed towards a corner about 3" away.
