Re-painting my interior plastics: Round 2.
I am one to learn from my mistakes, and with that I decided to re-surface my interior plastics a second time. The first time I painted them, I only used Krylon Fusion, which apparently is more of a primer/dye than an actual paint. Naturally, that left a finish that showed nearly every imperfection in the prep job, which I unfortunately didn't notice until after the parts were re-installed in the car.
Round 2:
To paint the parts this time, I first used Krylon Fusion Satin Black as a primer. I have used this paint in the past when working with plastics, and it works very well as an undercoat because it is designed specifically to bond to the surface of plastics. This is where I stopped last time, at the Krylon Fusion coat.
This time, however, I decided to then coat the pieces with Rustoleum 2X Coverage Satin in Canyon Black. I intentionally sprayed the pieces from a further distance that normal (from a distance of about 3-feet) which resulted in a nice, even semi-textured surface, similar to the '94+ surface. After about 5 coats, I left the parts to dry overnight before reinstalling everything.

Hey Tom, looks great. Did you use just the spray can, or did you use a spray can and then add on the little plastic trigger mechanism (about $3.00) to turn it into more of a spray gun?
I found that its much easier to spray an even coat just because its easier to turn on the spray and you can hold it like a conventional spray gun. It also saves your pointer finger some pain if doing it for a long period of time.

For anyone else attempting this, get this and thank me after haha.

That looks great. I just finished my interior plastics as well using the Bumper Coating spray that was mentioned in another thread. Turned out great also and is a near perfect match to how it came from the factory. It is definately worth doing since so many interiors are so beat up, just make sure to take your time with sanding and using goof off to rub the rubberized coating off if you have a 93 model.
It's been a year and a half....how's it holding up?? chipping, fading, etc....
Now that my windows are tinted and my interior is somewhat protected I've got some painting to do myself....
