Radio died ... bummin...
After months of getting the car running, and cleaning up the interior , the only part left was the radio...this has the radio/cassette/ equalizer setup... it worked fine except the controls were so dirty you had to wiggle the ***** to get the channels to play, so I removed the unit and was pleasantly surprised to find that the sub units came apart for serving took the cover off the radio and just sprayed contact cleaner on to the controls and worked them... the cassette I replaced the belt and cleaned the heads, put it all back together, and nothing.....the radio dial lit up but no sound , then the dial started flashing and just went out , it appears a 30+ capacitor decided to die at the same time , now you turn it on and all the LEDs light faintly telling me a cap has shorted.... unfortunately getting at the circuit boards on these radios are not easy, would I be better off throwing in a aftermarket unit ? I wanted to keep the car as original as possible I highly doubt these are sitting on junkyard shelfs....
