racing seats?

Okay guys, I have searched but I found conflicting information and didn't find what I was looking for, so here it goes:
I'm just under 6'4" (long legs, shorter body), and I just barely fit in my FD touring. I guess I have about 1/2"-1" of headroom. I also want to start auto-xing my car, but I won't fit with a helmet unless the seat is nearly horizontal. So I have been looking into getting a racing seat. I have heard that they will lower your seating position. But I sat in a couple seats at the RX-7 Revolution last weekend (thanks to everyone who let me test their seats!) and they all sat higher than the stock seats! It was recommended to me yesterday to check out Kirkey seats, because they are basically just a sheet of aluminum with a little bit of padding. They seem pretty hardcore, which is fine cause I would only use that type seat on race weekends, but they have to be welded to a cage, which I don't have (nor do I want!) I have also heard that it is possible to remove foam from the stock seats but I don't want to do this because I find them comfortable as they are and plan on still using them for daily driving duties. Does anybody have any other recommendations? What do any of you other really tall guys do? Thanks for any help.

Check this thread out. How Tall Are You Guys?

The Kirkey road race seat Kirkey Seat is very comfortable, but I really doubt it will fit in an FD. Hella ugly too, IMO.

I like the Sparco Corsa myself. Sparco Corsa

interior forum and searched for tall and seats.

seems to me rx7trix has a rail for corbeau. I think they made it and it mounts real low.

Okay, I may have a solution for you. I just bought a 93 RX7 Touring and the former owner replaced the original seats with some sort of racing seat. (I am writing this from out of town, so I can't go to the car and look for a brand name) They are a molded compsite shell with a thin layer of padding (1/4") on the inside, and then they have a thick pad at the bottom front under your knees.

I am looking for a set of black leather seats to put in their instead. I looked at the mounting rails, and the guy has them mounted on what appears to be the original rails, and then propped up on about 20 washers. Even propped up on the washers, the seat sits VERY low in the car. My *** is basically on the floor.

I am 5"11, and I can hardly see over the steering wheel when sitting in these seats. I have at least 5 or 6 inches above my head.

Warning though, the car is hard to get in and out of with the seat so low.

As soon as I find seats to replace these with I will put them up for sale.

Thanks for all the replies. I have already read all of those threads though. In fact, if you read the thread that Keynote22 posted, you will see that I posted the same question in that thread! (BTW, Keynote, thanks for the Revolution, I will definitely be there next year!) The problem is that I'm getting conflicting answers with nobody giving a definite solution as to what they did (bolting seats to the floor, using side mounted seat rails, etc) and most of the aftermarket seats I sat in at the Revolution sat higher than the stock seats! I'm not so concerned about appearance on the Kirkey's either; that type of seat I would just put in for auto-x weekends. I would still use the stockers for daily driving. I'll have to look into the JDM seat rails, though, that is new info to me!

Also, for anybody with aftermarket seats, what did you do about the seat belt? The stock seat belt latch is connected to the seat and this would be removed when you take the stock seats out. Just wondering.
