Raceonusa 99 spec plateless bumper pics
Hi everyone,
There is lots of talk about the plateless urethane bumper and its lack of good fitment on this forum. So much in fact, it almost swayed me to get an OEM bumper instead. In the end, I just couldnt stomach the front plateholder. It was like a wart on a supermodel to me. I found a couple of people that had plateless urethane 99 spec bumpers that fit good so I figured "if they can do it... "
Anyhow, I told several people that I would report back on fitment of the thing so here is a post with pics. It took me and a friend approximatly 20hrs of installing, marking, uninstalling, grinding, repeat, to get this thing to fit like this. In the end I ended up removing all of the metal brackets from the OEM bumper and using them on this one via rivets (just like the oem bumper attached the brackets) This bumper doesnt come with the holes drilled to install. There are obvious spots where the hole is "supposed" to be drilled though. I did NOT end up using any of the pre-marked holes in the bumper. They are WAY off. My guess is that the normal fitment you see on here is from people simply drilling those holes and assuming they will fit. The actual install holes I have on my bumper are up to 1/2 inch off of where the pre-marked holes were.
I am extremely happy with the fitment of this. It seems to fit better than my oem 93 bumper did. Here are pictures. Remember, if you are worried about fitment - its possible for it to fit right. If I can do it, you can too. (this was the first body work / bumper fitment I have ever done)

looks like it fits great, any aftermarket bumper needs some tweaking IMO.
I still prefer the OEM 99 license plated bumper though. its a beauty mark, not a wart.

Fitment looks good.
Thats where the cost vs. benefit comes in. If you're not doing it yourself, 20hrs @ $50/hr at a shop is more then difference in cost between the OEM and CraponUSA. The OEM bumper will slip on like a glove.
Personally though, I've seen alot of craponUSA parts and they are all **** until you go to the work of making them look like they should. FC fenders...OMG don't get me started.

For the urethane bumper that Race-On sells it is from the same mold that Rotary Extreme used. You can search on my thread on this subject. Urethane in itself is harder to fit as it moves more readily. I have fit this bumper fairly well as well but I still believe that it could be better which is why I would like to get a descent fiberglass plateless out there.

The center section between the indent for the two popup headlight covers needed the most. Its physically wider than the hood is. A rounded file, carefulness, and some time took care of that.
Where it meets on the fenders didnt fit just right either. Some grinding of the surface to get it to sit against the fenders better happened there.
I also drilled out the rivets on the metal work for the OEM bumper and used those. So I have the "studs" (I know thats not what they really are) on my plateless bumper now. I also have the big metal section in the middle.
Suggestion for anyone buying this bumper is to NOT drill out where the holes look like they are supposed to be drilled out. Litterally mine are up to 1/2 inch away in some spots.
I'm sure every experience is different. My biggest suggestion is to just take your time fitting it. This is my second car, and my summer enjoyment car. I did this during the winter when I didnt care to drive it anyway, so 20hrs... 3 friday afternoons and a saturday didnt really matter much to me. I suggest anyone take time.
I started off by fitting the drivers side fender perfect, then the pass fender perfect. (line these up, they do fit nearly perfectly length wise, just not well enough flat against the fender) Then the middle/hood section. From there it was a matter of figuring out where holes should be, and bending the support metal I stole from the oem 93 bumper to contort the bumper to fit correctly.

Bumper is not sagging. To be fair, it also sits in a garage an awful lot of the time. I used the 93 bar modified to fit. No pics of the top part with the hood opened atm.
