I'll continue on with the final phase and post the results. Spoke with Pettit Racing today and my car is fixed and ready. Pretty excited as it has been a year getting it enhanced - shouldn't have taken nearly this long but that's another story. Thanks to Pettit for doing a stellar job to clean up another shop's mess.

Don't know the exact weight of the material but the Quiet Coat reps told me 5-6 gallons (this is what is required for 3 coats and the three phases I've discussed weighs about 70 lbs. I took out the spare tire to help compensate for this, but the reduction in noise is well worth it, even with the two phases I've completed.

I'm driving down to Palm Beach on Wednesday and will have the car back in Jacksonville on Thursday.

Cool...have the car back now. Will get the final phase scheduled over the next two weeks or so and report back on the results. This phase should have the most reduction results so I'm looking froward to it.

Hi guys,

I'll get back to the final phase soon. Slowed down because of car problems (now resolved thanks to Pettit Racing) and too much going on at work. Will start again next week.

FYI - I will get back to this shortly. Pettit has my car back and running well so I can again turn my attention to sound proofing the car. Will probably be next week before I start again.

Fifth Gear in JAX has agreed to help me out with applying the underbody sound proofing. I'm meeting with them tomorrow morning and should have the car back in the afternoon. Will keep you posted of the process and final results.

David,

I live in Jax, right off San Pablo and am considering buying an FD, but I have never even ridden in one. Do you think I could come to your house and check out yours, maybe take me for a ride, and talk about owning an FD?

Will provide an update soon. Have a call into the Quiet Coat guys for help on the underbody work. Got one coat on the car and had to stop due to "technical" difficulties.

Okay, just a quick update for you. Had a massive problem with the spray gun used for the underbody coating. Thus, was able to only complete one out of the three coats required.

The QuietCoat guys have been great - they've shipped a new gun and more product for delivery this week. Will keep you posted. More to come - hopefully the final phase and final results.

CRAPPPP...I found this thread by searching and read the whole thing, but there's no ending!!!!

I hope this gets finished. I would be very interested in doing this to my car.

Dave, Are you coming to the All-Florida Meet here in Tampa in December? I would love to hear how QUIET your car is now.

David,

Thanks for following up on my post. There are a few issues than an FC owner has to deal with a bit differently. First off, I will not be undercoating my car. There is already a rubber undercoating from the factory on the bottom and then another hard rubber coating under the carpet + carpet + pad = Not a big deal. My main complaint is in the rear spare tire area. The area in back right behind the tail lights is like a HUGE resonator for sound. So I'm going to be combating this in two ways. I think first and foremost I will try 1 gallon of Quiet Coat to coat the rear half of the trunk (as this is where the sound is coming from) I will then spray this product: http://www.itwfoamseal.com/auto_aftermarket.htm In behind it (as well as fill in all the body panels). And cover up the rear hatch with a small roll of bitumen roofing material (essentially the same material as dynamat, without the sheilding at under 1 dollar per sq foot. Let me know what you think.

-Mike

I think your write up is great and I really want to hear the results!

David,

How many gallons have you used so far/estimate you will use in total?

I am going to purchase some i think, do you think i would roughly the same amount by applying it under the carpet than spraying it under the car? (i am unsure how many layers you will be applying to the underbody..)

Many thanks

Ryan

great thread, need I say pin it mods?

I do have a question. Its seems to me it would make MUCH more sence to cover the underbody from the inside of the car, under the carpet instead of from under the car, and here is why. If you do it the way you are doing it you basicaly put a wall between the road and your car. Killing road noise BUT you are walling yourself in with your trany and all. If you do it from the inside you wall of everything, anyhting that can make noise under your car (alot of things) as well as the road noise.

makes sence or have I had to much rootbeer?

The guys at QuietCoat state it works either way. Thought about what you propose, but that was more involved than I wanted.

Update - was supposed to have received the replacement product by now, but I don't have it. Will contact the company Monday.

Sorry for the delay but I won't give up!
