questions switching from bose to aftermarket.

I want to take out the entire bose system from ym FD and replace it with all aftermarket speakers. I already have a head unit. Here are my questions:

For the front:
1. I can fit a 5.5" or a 6.5" right?
2. How deep can the speakers be?
3. What do I have to do to get the regular speakers to fit in there, since bose speakers bolt up differntly?

For the back:
1. If I use 6x9s will they stick out of the hole? What if I use a smaller size?
2. Do I need some sort of box or something since there were no speakers to begin with in the back?
3. How do I go aobut wiring these? Do I jsut run wires right up to the harness on the head unit?
4. Am I limited on depth for the back? If so, how deep can the speakers be?

Thanks for any help.

I don't know for sure what you can do for the rear speakers on the bose set up. I would guess that the front are the same size as what the non bose was if it is that then there 6.5 in the front. The rear ones on the non bose where a 5x7. I went with the new infinty kapas in my FD but again I also had the non bose system. Hopefuly this can help you out some there.

Go to www.crutchfield.com.... that should answer most of your questions about what fits and how you can make it fit...

My FD had a non-bose. I was able to fit some infinity kappas into the doors. they are 6.5" 3-way speakers, sound great, and had only very minor modifactions required to the speaker brackets.

Most speaker manufacturer's make a 6x8 specifically for mazda and ford cars. this may be the size to use for the rear, as it will require no mods to bolt up.

Thats the deal, for the front, bose speakers bolt up differnt then regular ones, so there is no such thing as bolt on replacement. There are no speakers in the back, so that means there is no enclosure to bolt them to. It'll all have to be customed some how.

I was also wondering about how to wire them up after taking out the bose speakers.

On non-bose FD's there are rear speakers in place of those plastic storage bins. If you're planning to place rear speakers, I've got a set of non-bose rear speaker brackets for sale--they'll accept up to 6x9's. Anybody correct me if I'm wrong.
