Question for all of you with vented hoods...

Do you have any issues when it rains? Does enough water get into engine bay to hurt it? I am shopping for a vented hood, so far I like the Vis Fuzion one but am concerned that I will hurt my engine when it rains.... I live in New Orleans and it rains quite a bit here in the summer...

Can anyone let me know?

Thanks

Rain trays come with most hoods. I dont know off the top of my head the VIS FUZION hood, but I have the JUN hood with no problems at all..

Seriously. This topic has been asked MANY times. Plus, you're asking in the wrong section. Check the interior/exterior/audio section. There are over a dozen threads about it here: https://www.rx7club.com/search.php?searchid=907396

In the future, before you post, please give a thought to the possibility that a forum that's been around since 1996 and a archive that goes back to early 2001 just may have someone who was curious like you

I garage my car, but I do drive in the rain, and have never had a problem. Unless your alternator sits directly below a vent AND you plan to let the car sit outside in the rain (engine not running/hot) you should have no problem.

Like the other guys have mentioned driving in the rain isn't much of a problem but you need to cover the car if it is parked. I have a scoot hood and I used to park my car in the open even if it rains. My coils gave way after about 6 months

But then again, the Scoot hood isn't really a hood... it's more of a big vent w/ hood around it I'm sure no other hood get as much water directly onto engine bay components as the Scoot (and prob the RE, since it's the same minus the front scoop) My friend's got the RE hood on his car, and I was like man, I can jack half your stuff w/ your hood still down!

zonblitz, thanks for being a good sport. We just have too many new threads asking things already covered in many old threads. FYI, I have a vented hood, and I've driven through some of the worst rainstorms this area's seen in a while. I've sat in traffic as it's rained HARD on my car. No ill effects whatsoever. But then again, my vent is a single vent toward the front of the engine bay (around where the IC is), so no water gets on the manifold, alternator, etc, such as in the Scoot "hood" lol.

Thanks for the help guys. Just trying to make a good decision with getting some heat help while not causing additional problems.

I'll probably put this off for a bit as I have just ordered my new defi gauges, a fc pro and about to get a intercooler.

With that and the other fixes (door handles, bushings and new fluids), I have some Overtime to work!

thanks agian guys.
