PureRx7 Project 2009: Clean, Mean & Sexy
This is going to be a build thread to show the progress of the car has it changes from various stages. My goal is to finish the exterior in three months. Lets start from the very beginning.
This was the car four years ago right after I added new wheels, was originally bought bone stock: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...rx7/enkei2.jpg Than a year later, I was fortunate enough to come across a set of rotary run racing lights. I added that, feed front, feed sideskirts and cwest rear. All still in VR. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12.../7shoot007.jpg I decided to change the wheels, front bumper, new hood and re-paint the car. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...7/advan032.jpg Of course I was not happy with the advans, so I went with a set of work wheels and added ganador mirrors:http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...outside010.jpg That is how that car sits today. Here are the plans for 2009. Project Plans: Aero Front bumper: Shine Feed front, feed lens covers, 99 spec lights. I do not like the way the feed combination lights look behind the lens, so I am just going to go with the 99spec. Side skirts: Feed CF Mirrors: Ganador Rear: My goal here is to fix the transition from the side to the rear, I actually like the way the c-west rear bumper looks from the side, but it does not flow from the side-skirts to the rear. Changing the side-skirts is not an option. I also dont like the rear of the c-west, where it has two openings for an exhaust. I am going back to the stock bumper and adding shine CF re-amemiya pro diffuser, cf center valence, and CF craftsqaure addons which will flow perfectly with the feed CF sideskirts. Headlights: Going back to stock, probably pick up a set of knightsports lights. Hood: FRP ad9 hood, I am sick of the CF hood, just want a painted one now. Fenders: R-magic. By FAR the best fenders available for the FD, very subtle and add 15mm. I HATE that you can see the tire when looking from behind on the feed fenders. Spolier: CF shine low profile spoiler. Still undecided on this, I will go wingless if I dont choose this wing. Basically my goal is this but in a dark red, the r-magic fenders will also give it a more aggressive stance, and mine will have feed lens covers: https://img374.imageshack.us/img374/9434/img0011iw6.jpg Wheels: Right now I have 18" work vs-xx wheels in chrome/ polish, I LOVE the design, so I think I am just going to a 19" wheel in satin black like so with red lug nuts: https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3057...3a69c965_b.jpg Color: I am undecided if I am going to keep the current color (laser red with gold pearl) or just re-paint the whole car. I would definitely appreciate some input here. If I do repaint the car, I will do something close to a candy apple red, maybe shift red from yamaha: https://i138.photobucket.com/albums/...Picture273.jpg current color http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...rx7meet044.jpg Interior Seats: Recaro Pole position seats, similar to spirit r seats. Bought these from Ramy, FRP backing http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-...6/Parts019.jpg Dash: Re-painted Piano Black Headunit: Double Din, either new eclipse or alpine unit Speakers: Rainbow pro front and back, powered by audison lrx 6 channel amp, might upgrade to a new amp that can give more power. I will build an amp rack soon, just need to design one. This is what is currently in the hatch: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...rx7/rx7020.jpg Door Pales: Will see what happens with the redline group buy, if not, they will be covered in black leather with red stitching. Carpet: Going to a black carpet and black floormats, un-decided if I am going to keep the rear 1/4 panels and bins tans or change them to black. Steering Wheel: Nardi Deep Corn leather, red stitching. Misc: Spirit R shift knob, e-brake, and boot. Might go to a 2002 cluster if the funds allow for it. Engine Currently the engine has a pettit streetport, pettit rebuilt twins, pettit intake, downpipe, hks carbon ti, Efini ypipe, hks intercooler pipes. Intake: Carbon AutoExe intake, absolutely beautiful Turbos: Going to stay on the stock twins, might move to the BNR's, I am not looking to make a ton of whp, as my car is my dd and it has enough problems already: TB Elbow: Polished Feed Elbow SMIC: Either Blitz or Re-Amemiya Strut Bar: Feed. I already have this Exhaust: Something rare and titanium from Japan, either feed ti, amuse ti or arc ti. Some kind of titanium mid-pipe as well. Misc. Polished UIM, TB, intake piping, red torque brace, red hood dampers, need to decide on what brand couplers I am going to go with, but they will be red. Some kind or radiator cooling panel, probably cabring, I will wrap this in CF. Suspension Aragosta or Zeal, whatever I can get at a reasonable price in good condition. Brakes: Willwood big brake kit up front. I am sure I am forgetting a TON of stuff, but I will update the thread as things come in. Who says money cant buy happiness? I am grinning from ear to ear just writing about all of this. One last picture before the transformation begins: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12.../rx7poster.jpg P.S. Buy my blitz fmic so I can fund this project :) |
Why don't you go with a feed hood instead of the ad9? If you look closely at the blue fd you posted it looks like an angry raptor dinosaur if you look long enough hehe..
I wouldn't put a low profile spoiler, imo just leave it wingless. Wingless is very clean and sexy. Good luck on the project |
Repaint car with Ferrari's red Rosso Corsa, the best red paint ever. period.
|
I want your headlights!!!! lol good luck on the build

The feed intake headlight cover throws it off, I will have the plain covers. 2. Stock fenders. I think with the wider front fenders, the car will attain a different and more aggressive look.

Not a big fan of the feed hood to be honest, looks ok but just isnt my taste. The problem with the blue car is that:
1. The feed intake headlight cover throws it off, I will have the plain covers. 2. Stock fenders. I think with the wider front fenders, the car will attain a different and more aggressive look. Well I'm a fan of the feed widebody kit. I guess your front and rear fenders will set it all off. Nice choice of color too, if I was going to go red or redish I"d go with something that is very dark that has alot of pop when you wash that bad boy. *IMO* over the top hoods ruin the car. But hey to each his own. |
AutoEXE intake IS beautiful! Where are you going to get it?!? JHDjapan?

Wouldn't aftermarket front fenders and stock rear fenders look off? Blah what do I know I never seen aftermarket fenders in person. I'd search around on the forum for different ideas and such. I'll help ya out since I have nothing better to do at work

I'm not a fan of those seats, honestly they look cheap "looking" some nice black recaro's or spraco would set it off! Your rims are hot..
edit.. I'm not trying to be a jerk.. |

Good luck with your 2009 project, pure.
Dam that colour is nice haha. |
Can't wait to see this in person!
|
NICE !!! I like the idea for your 2009 Project. But then again, I might be biased considering that you pretty much described my car LOL !!! =) (except a thing or two). I'll post some pics.
In my case I would go with the low profile spoiler. When I first installed the Re-Amemiya Rear Diffuser with the Craft Square and Feed Sides, with no spoiler, I noticed that the top of the trunk needed a bit more height and the Low Profile is Perfect. I post some pics later today so you can see what I mean. Good Luck with your Build!! I promise you will enjoy it. Carlos - Evil M5 |

Bwahahaha... Jeff's mindtricks does it again LOL
I got my Fc painted recently, and I wanted to paint it with Rosso Corsa, but I ended up painting it with Red Blaze (factory paint) and I got suprised how good it look :) Ill post some pics later. |
Closest pic with Rosso Fiorana?

Roll & pull your fenders 15mm
It will give an oldschool look. Reference Ken's car from Shine Auto I think he runs 20" In the rear & 19" up front. It's one of the best looking (VIP'ish) FD's I have ever seen. D CUPS' FD Is also a great source to pull from. Good luck, can't wait to see how she turns out! |
Just ordered:
Feed front bumper CF TWILL Pro Diffuser CF TWILL center valence CF TWILL craftsqaure addons. Cant wait! Now I just need someone to buy my blitz fmic.

Rear bumper needs to go or the matching side skirts need to be added, the lower line of the car is completely broken and haggard looking. Not saying my FD looks better, because it definitely doesn't :(

Don't know i skipped over that, must have been all the pretty pics. Your plans for changing the flow are awesome. I honestly don't think theres anything better than the stock bumper for the shape of this car.

Just got my nardi wheel in and I am going to sell it, going to go with the nardi deep corn wheel. This came off a rx7 in japan with 4,000Km(2,500 miles), I honestly could sell this as new, it is beyond MINT. Price is 430 shipped + paypal fees. PM if you want it, will be in the forsale section soon. Kind of a reward for reading this thread, so you guys get first dibs :)

PureRx7 you should DEFINETLY go for Yamaha's Shift red. It would look hot during the day and night!
Yamaha Shift Red > Ferrari Rosso Fiorana GO FOR IT!!! NOW!!!! it looks X100 better than your present goldish red paint |
By the way, have you ever wondered how hot would the RZ white cluster gauges would look during nite time? I have a couple of pics:

http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/8827/dsc01424fe1.jpg So you like the shift red? I feel like it looks kind of pinkish in the sun, something I want to stay away from?I need to find something not as pinkish, and I dont like rosso fiorano out of the light. http://www.nationalpowersports.net/i...0/IMG_1909.jpg http://www.nationalpowersports.net/i...0/IMG_1930.jpg On another note, I have decided on using Re-Amemiya mirrors: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...rx7/mirror.jpg And seats, I am going to sell those recaro spirit r style seats, and get these, but get the silver part wrapped in CF. http://www.maxspeed-motorsports.com/...97gt3seats.png http://www.maxspeed-motorsports.com/...7gt3seats1.png I checked all the measurements and they will fit in the fd just fine, they are smaller than the bride gias. |
^^^What seat is that?
|
nice seats.
|
Here are the pics that I promised. Let me know what you think.

No I think your mistaking Spirit R with RZ cluster. There are different from each other, Spirit R cluster is grey with green LEDs and Spirit R emblem in the Tach. RZ cluster is all white with no emblem and amber LEDs.
Spirit R cluster: http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/1998/spiritrsn0.jpg RZ cluster: http://i39.tinypic.com/33y729f.jpg And about the Shift Red, you are probably getting that impression because of the picture, I would suggest you to pass by your local Yamaha dealership and check the bike by yourself to see if thats the color you want to go for. It looks good to me, and the pink in daytime its just and impression. |

These are very well made with carbon fiber shells, very sweet and like I said, will not be an issue fitting into the fd, since it is actually narrower than the bride gias. What I am having them do is two things: 1. Use red stitching 2. Have the holes drilled a certain distance apart so I can use memory fab rails, I am basically going to give him the dimension of the holes on the recaro SPG seats I have for sale. So I will not need to modify or make any new brackets. They are pretty steep, around $1700 +s/h + what-ever they charge me for stitching and custom drilling. I am hoping to get a refund as I will not need their rails, but I am going to need to shell out an additional $300 to $350 for memory fab or bride rails. All in all, will be around $2100, but they sure do look like they are worth it.

Spirit R and Series 8 both have amber lighting. Only series 7 has green backgrounds.
Color of background is different only. If you get the cluster, you probably want the RE-Amemiya 300 Km speedo. No use reading to 110 mph. |

Here's some of my recommendations for your interior plastics. Let me know if any catch your fancy, I'll give you info on where to purchase the material and get you in touch with someone good to wrap your parts. -Matt

Another happy shine customer. I plan on molding in the license plate hole. It is all becoming a reality!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...7/shine005.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...7/shine004.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...7/shine003.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...7/shine001.jpg |
Go with the red on the supra. it LOOKS in the PICTURE darker than the lambo red.
|
Just go with Shift Red. Lambo Rosso Leto looks like just like your paint. Red with gold pearl, you stay away from that color. I told you just go for the Shift Red.
|
Pure,
The price you gave on the seats. . .is that each? If not, that price seems very reasonable. Please post specs, if you're getting these custom built, you might be able to drum up a group buy, if you're interested in saving some $$. Looking good. |

your exterior is gonna be sick. i can't wait to do my exterior mods
|
Looking to seeing this finished B. I always have a great respect for how well thought out (and IMHO) tasteful your visual updates are.
|
Any thoughts on painting the interior plastics to match the exterior? It's been done before, it's tasteful and unifies the car's look. The silver parts of the new seats should finished to match the interior plastics to integrate them. As far as changing the cluster gauges, first consider matching the interior color scheme. Second, if you plan on incorporating after-market gauges, will they match? The new seats with the black carbon fiber shells allow you to add more of the same material to your interior. Be sure and match the weave patterns on all adjoining parts. Try to stay under three colors for the whole car. I'm also partial to adding the body color to the rims in places. Same goes for lug nuts and brake calipers. The black and tan interior is a proven but a well liked contrast. I still think the kevlar/carbon material for your interior plastics would bring your car's style up another level. Jason Strouss is making custom mats in the group buy section, now would be a great time to have him make you something with your own logo design. Also consider Redline goods for making you some custom leather or alcantara shift and brake boots. RhdJapan.com is selling the spirit-r shift knobs and brake handles with the red stitching if your interested.
