Protege 5 steerign wheel in FD

I just saw this car (for sale) on Tri-Point's web site, and it has a new Mazda steering wheel, apparently from a Protege 5:

Looks like it might be a nice option for getting a new steering wheel with a semi-OEM appearance. That looks to be a pretty good deal for the car, too.

(not affiliated with Tri-Point, but I just thought the steering wheel was interesting)

That steering wheel is I think around $440. You can find it anywhere that sells Mazda parts and its more commonly from the 99 spec. Much better look than ours now but if you like that also check out to see if an rx8 steering wheel will work same thing I think.

I wonder if it directly bolts or you need an adapter?

Off topic: The only thing I would take off an rx-8 for the fd is the shift ****.

I believe if you buy the 99 spec steering wheel which looks the exact same it is a direct bolt on.

The Protege wheel should be WAY easier to find used in the US, though .

I do remember some time back someone putting a Protege wheel in an FD - there was a writeup on it.

Ah! Found it -

The miata/protege wheels will work in our cars, but you will have to drill a couple holes to get them to fit as opposed to the '99 spec wheel on later RX-7's which bolts right on.

It sure looks like the EXACT SAME wheel, but as someone said, w/ diff mounting to accomodate Miatas.

it isn't a direct bolt on, you have to modify where the blinker on/off keys lie

basically machine two slots/grooves
