You can tap into just about anything that utilizes "switched" power. I've seen where some people crimp a male spade connector on the power wire and just plug it into one of the fuel pump fuse connectors on the fuse block.

As for illumination, you can buy a pack of splice connectors from Radio Shack and either tap into the light for the cigarette lighter or the one for the ash tray. If you utilize the one for the ash tray, you will be able to dim the gauge lights with the dash light dimmer.

i taped into my radio power, but if you want dimmer control, tap into your interior lamp switch. just use a voltmeter to find what wire is the accessory.

Carnage, do you think it would overload the radio power wire if i got power from that for 3 gauges? I would think to be on the safe side just replace the fuse with a higher rated one?

For illumination, i'd go with the the ashtray. It's easily accessible so there's no struggle with wires. As for the power source, i'd find one from the fuse box. There's a lot less interior parts that would need to come off compared to radio.

I am powering 2 gauges (one only backlighting, one backlighting and power for the gauge) off of the ashtray, and they also dim with the dimmer for the interior (on an FD).

It's been like this for a few years with no noticable problems.

The 3 gauges i had used had LED backlighting, i doubt there is enough current draw to set back the radio. if there was, i never had an issue for 4 months to date.
