Decal removal?

My RX-7 and both TURBO II decals are peeling and look like *****. Is there any way to remove them without harming the paint underneath? Would lighter fluid/Goof-off work?

Most likely it would work. After that you could try rubbing the adhesive off with denatured alcohol or lacquer thinner but the thinner will definitely rub off the paint if you are not real careful.

I currently use this tool to remove pinstripes and decals:

Just remember to keep this tool moving otherwise you'll burn into your clearcoat really fast.

I have also used a heat gun to remove most of the crusty decals and then bug/tar removal for the remaining adhesive crap.

Laquer Thinner works great too, but it will tend to cause your clearcoat to turn cloudy especially when trying to remove (scrubbing) years old decals.

I use a heat gun on low setting with a plastic scraper blade. Looks like a razor. Once most is removed, rub with fast dry reducer or a product called AFTA on a soft cloth. Rub slowly and gently as to not haze your clear coat. Then wash and wax. You'll never know that decal was there.

Oh ya, laquer thiner will turn a white car to chalk dust unless the paint is reletivly new.

Good luck!
