Hey, I just installeed a pioneer 7400, and when listening to cd's, the antenna goes up. Is there any way to make it so the antenna only goes up while listening to the radio?

 

Your CD player is messed up:0) I would read your manual and see if this is some sort of setting, but more then likely it is not wired correctly. Make sure that the power ant wires match up, or take it back to the install shop. I just put in a alpine and my ant goes down when I play cd's without any issues

Many of the cheaper aftermarket radios do not have a dedicated antenna turn on output.

In those cases you are stuck with the antenna going up when you turn anypart of the radio/CD on unless you add a switch.

 

it is not a pioneer feature it is an FD feature. the only way to stop your antenna from goning up is like someone said install a switch or could could install a s2k antenna

 

No that is incorrect. There is a dedicated antenna lead on the FD, and it is not tied into the amp turn on.

 

I don't know if an FD is different or not, but on my FC the antenna is a negative ground. I bought a relay with the factory plugs from Crutchfield for 12 bucks. It hooks to the p ant. wire from the stereo and lets the antenna work only with the radio.

 

That's only on FB's and FC's (through 89?)
Actually, I believe it's all Mazdas from 81-89..

 

My '85 GSL-SE is positive ground, not negative

 

I have a question guys. I always wanted to put a wireless antenna on my car (the ones that are on the window that look like squiggly lines ^^^^^^^^). Is that really possible? Any advantages or disadvantages guys? Thanks

Poor reception...

For proper FM reception in North America you need an antenna that is 31-32 inches tall. Some companies (like hirshman) make a shorter antenna, but they have to build a booster circuit and wrap the antenna around itself to get that 31 inches. That's why the rubber antennas (often called rubber duckeys) suck... they just are not tall enough.

For proper AM reception you need the tallest antenna possible.

You also need a good ground plane of metal near the base of the antenna for again you loose signal reception.

 

And how many stereos you installed this week/month>?

We'll I install professionally (for over 12 years) and Im here to tell you from a professional point of view that Pioneer/Premier's reliability is about 3X that of Sony. Only thing as good as the Pioneer as far as making it past the warranty period is an Alpine...

I remove maybe 3-4 outta 10 Sony's within' 90 days of install with the same exact CD player problem... I hope Sony's upper end stuff is better than their Xplod stuff.. Ever time I put a Sony in I cross my fingers and hope to god it wont be back with problems! Especially in the rear loaded ISO din type of cars...

Pioneer defect ratio is about 1 in 50!

 

LOL I think your misunderstanding the term here, go out and look at your battery in your car, now follow the negative battery terminal wire downward, I bet it ground to the drivers side strut tower...
