Popping upon amp turn-on
I have a New Eclipse Deck (8443). I'm running an Infinity Basslink and Kappa Perfect Components powered by a Polk Amplifier. I ran a remote lead from the Deck (Amp Turn On) back to the Polk Amp. The wire is spliced to also turn on the Basslink. Whenever I turn on the deck, I get a nasty pop from the speakers. How can I get rid of this? I've seen those time delay things, but I would rather not rig it like that if there is a good fix. It's not like I bought crappy sound stuff???

The turn-on thump is likely the deck powering up the external amps before/during powering up its internal pre-amp. The preamp's outputs can send an impulse when they receive power. Though it could very well be the Polk amp's problem. Try disconnecting the RCA's on the Polk amp, and power up the head unit, see if it still pops.
I read these, and similar, threads on other forums a few months ago, when I was researching headunits:

edit: To emphasize what's said before, it is common and not necessarily due to malfunctioning equipment

Check, check, check your grounds.
If need be, reground your HU with a line of 12 guage or so wire running to the chassis somewhere, and see if it still does it.

Pop, thump, same thing. A power-amp is ready to rock, when the pre-amp is still powering up & its output transistors are still reaching their bias-points. This results in an impulse signal sent to whatever it connected to the output. If a sub is receiving the impulse, you hear a "thump". If a mid is receiving the impulse, you hear a "pop". If a tweeter is receiving the impulse you hear a "tap".
I think the basslink has a soft turn, so it doesn't turn on in time to amplify the "thump." But the Polk amp probably lacks the delayed or "soft" powerup, so it's ready to amplify the "pop". Hell, unsophisticated power amps just thump with nothing at the inputs at all.

I had an "urban power" brand amp (in an old beater) that had a good 3 second turn on delay after power was applied to the remote-turn-on terminal. When it did power up, the volume would ramp up. It was cheap, but not a bad amp acutally. It was purple annodized, but the sub did a good job of hiding it

I just put that same head unit in a couple of weeks ago. (94') I have a turn-on thump as well. I'm running an Xtant 4ch amp. I spoke with the designer of that particular amp and there isn't a problem with turn-on noise in this line on amps.
Did you use the factory ground wire to ground the head unit?
If you are able to get rid of it let me know what you did. I will do the same.
