Polish lip of silver gauge.

I purchased an Autometer 52mm gauge. It is a sport comp model with black face and silver painted bezel.

I have been told that it should be possible for me to polish the bezel so that it will look closer to the chrome of the 3rd gen dash gauges.

Does anyone have any experence trying this?

How did it work out?

Does anyone have a set of chrome bezels to sell/give away in case the polish does not work?

How would you go about polishing something this small and delicate?

Also, the brain box for the meter is aproximately 5"x4"x3/4" The only place I can think to place it is in the glove box, or velcroed onto the floor, by the rocker. I prefer not to open the glove box to change the settings, but it seems the floor location might put it in danger.

The console is an appealing alternative if I remove the ashtray. How hard is it to remove the switch pannel/ash tray (Where the foglight and rear defroster are housed?) Is it easy to break while removing?
