CT Pioneer AppRadio (SPH-DA02)

I was poking around crutchfield for a double din for the FD I'm getting tomorrow. I stumbled on the Pioneer AppRadio. It suites my needs perfectly since I've got an iPhone 4, listen to Pandora and don't use cd's. Best part is it has a capacitive touch screen for multi touch and better sensitivity then resistive and you can run a list of apps right through the 6.1" screen. I've always had good luck with Pioneer head units and figured I'd try this one out. Oh btw, crutchfield is having a sale on the unit mentioned in my title. $399 msrp on sale for $149 so I jumped on it!

Dang, that is a good deal for Pioneer. I literally just bought a double din touch screen for the FD 2 days ago, but I went with Dual XDVD1262 from amazon. Same price but the dual has slightly higher RMS and wattage output. I do like the looks of the Pioneer more though. Post up some pictures once you get it installed!

Will do. Yeah I thought the price was a possible typo so I called them. Nope, so I ordered one right away. The rms is fine for what I want to do. Replace the front/rear speakers with some kickers coaxials and get a 10" JL sub for the back

Yea it makes sense that it costs that much. It's only iPhone4S/iPhone4/iPhone3GS/iPhone3 compatible. The description actually makes it sound like it's only iphone 4/4s compatible. Also, who knows how long pioneer will support the AppRadio app.

I'm sure with a proper cord and firmware update it will support iPhone 5

Hopefully it will but they may not. From what I read, it looks like the iphone 5 outputs video digitally where as the older phones output using analog so you may beed a DAC. I personally don't care since I just want to listen to my audio and for that, it looks like that actually may be possible but official word from pioneer is that they don't support this. There is some appradio hacking site that looks to be following this closely.

Allright I bought a kit from crutchfield. Hopefully I'll get my car back soon so we can see if it works haha.

BTW I read alot of reviews. I thought this was the appradio2. It is not. People are complaining about feeling like beta testers.

I'm just using Pandora, Bluetooth phone & gps so I think I'll be fine. I'm not giving up my iPhone 4 till there's an untethered jailbreak anyways

Idk about this radio, but I've got an AVIC-110BT in my Accord and they've come out with software upgrades for it 3 times since then. I am actually running on the 130BT version on it. Again, the AVIC is their flagship so it may be different.

You can still listen to Spotify via Bluetooth or cord. You just have to control it through the phone, unless they may it compatible someday.

Bump this. How did it turn out theprophet36?

My Dual head unit is... well hit or miss. I'd give it 3/5. The unit you posted is getting my attention but I don't own a iphone and appears this will not work for most ipods either.

It's been too damn cold to try pulling interior panels on the FD. As soon as it gets warmer in CT I'll be giving this a go.

I hope this will work for AppRadio 1 but from what I read it looks like it's only for AppRadio 2. The connectivity kit requires a firmware update as well.

Finally installed. GPS antenna mounted on the center speaker grill (speaker removed), JL JX500/1d Mono Sub amp, JL bass **** mounted by shifter, JL 8w3v3 Sub, sealed enclosure spec'd to the sub. Sounds great. I'm very happy with the install. Didn't even have to take the HVAC panel out to install the deck. Sub enclosure squeezes ever so perfectly under the strut bar. I took the ash tray out, dremel'd a hole to run the cable to my iPhone. Fits in the little pocket perfectly.

Prophet - How did you decide to handle the Power Antenna wire? Did you connect both the Blue/White and Blue to the Pioneer Blue? Is your antenna up ALL the time? I want to find a solution like my Kenwood where it only comes up with the radio function.. but a switch might be my only option.

I actually don't listen to the radio at all, so the antenna is not even hooked up. Just Pandora for me, sorry!

Makes sense. I'll probably just end up installing a switch.

Someone should REALLY make a custom iPhone/iPod dock that fits into the FD ash tray. It would be awesome if it could have like a light-up border using the existing led.

An iPhone/iPod dock would be pretty cool. Also, for anyone who might have interest in managing the antenna, I just ended up tapping into the OEM fog light switch since it was disconnected with my JDM bumper.
