^yep its soooo much cleaner, and if you forget to put the flip out down it sticks out and attracts thieves.

Well i would have gotten that. But as luck has it it was not bought by me but from my uncle when he came over from the states. It was a gift, so i might as well use it. I do hate how it blocks the dials on the blower motors and stuff but, i think i can live with that since i dont use it much any how.

Plus if i went double din i would have to find a new place for my defi guage controller, and my blitz boost controller to sit.

Maybe lower end flip outs do not flip down and hide when u shut off the car, but mine goes in automatically. I also have a button on mine that brings the flip down for 10 seconds with out retracting all the way in, so this way if i need to use the temp control real fast. Also, I prefer to have more of a eye level view of my monitor instead of having to look down a little which is what i would be doing if i got a 2 din. I liked the way 2 dins look, but I did not want people to know what I have in the car. For me I feel safer having the 1 din in my car. When the flip is closed it looks like a basic radio. I would think the 2 din would attract thieves just as much as a 1 din with the flip left open.

Here's my Eclipse touchscreen, just a little smaller than the cut out, so I made the aluminum trim ring and polished it to match the cluster rings.

It looks like a very clean installation. Great job.

not a fan of the single din flip outs, the double din untis look 100 times better. Or you could go the best route in my opinion and create a carPC and mold a 7 inch into the double din.

I assume that any double din will fit into an FD? I put my 94 with the Bose Stereo into the Krutchfield website and they claimed that most of the ones on the market do not fit? I dont think that is correct. Ideally, I would like to get a GPS/DVD/Hard Drive flatscreen double din installed. They are still running like $2000 right now, but I am hoping they will come down pretty quickly as the technology gets a little more common.

Any thoughts? Do you have to pay a service for aftermarket GPS systems? Will any double din size work in an FD? Do the flat screen ones generally fold down to reveal the DVD slot? Do you expect prices to drop dramatically on these type units in the next year?

Look for deals on last year's models. You have to cut some plastic that seperates the stock decks. Measure your dash and you'll have an idea when you go shoping. My Eclipse unit folds outward at the bottom and tilts in different positions for easier veiwing. There is two cd slots, one for dvd's/ navigation disk. A gps antenna is included and there is no extra fees unless you want sat. or h.d. radio. Most models are ipod compatable, check out lots of brands and compare features. I had to make my own mounting bracket, the diversity antenna most likely wont fit your new unit. I went with a hidden power antenna and mounted it under the dash. I made a trim ring to fill in the difference. If you can read and have some basic mechanical skills then, this is a good weekend project. You'll save a lot of money by tackling it yourself. You can still use the stock speakers with an adaptor. Good luck.
