ok, why the hell would anyone ever paint a CF hood???

the weight is the exact same as a fiberglass hood but more expensive! You buy CF hoods cuz you want the CF look, not cuz of the wight savings, lightness or anythignlike that. Ok, there is one exception where if the hood is made via dry carbon, then yes it would be lighter and possibly stronger but they cost wayyyyy too much for normal guys do be getting them!

Thanks, I had seen that one, but I actually would prefer a mazdaspeed one, if there is one on a black car, which there has got to be. Cuz if theres not, i'll be the first!

LOL, (I'm just debating here) Based on where the definition came from, they said it was mainly considered for use among the lower classes. I.E. those considered to be titled "illiterate speech" or whatever. Colloq. = Colloquial. They can explain it better than me.

"1. Characteristic of or appropriate to the spoken language or to writing that seeks the effect of speech; informal.
2. Relating to conversation; conversational."

Therefore, since we are having an informal convo. AND "ain't" is still is a word, Mld>7 is okay. We will just consider him lower class. J/K Mld

What the heck is with the spelling lessons???

In anycase CF is not lighter and is not more durable!!! (Well with the exception of dry carbon but that cost more then 99% of the people can afford, hell I can't even find a sorce for it).

The spelling stuff was just us joking around.

The material properties of carbon fiber make it more durable than aluminum, and a comparbale size of carbon fiber weighs as much as 50% less than aluminum (depending on what application you are using it for).

Some quotes from different applications carbon fiber/aluminum is used on:

"Stability is based upon the materials resistance to movement, which has to do with some material coefficient factor combined with the amount of material. Now, if stiffness between materials is the same, greater weight should be more resistant to vibration. However, materials differ in stiffness, and carbon fiber is much more stiff per pound than aluminum. Implying that it is more durable."

"The stiffness to weight ratio of carbon spars is more than twice that of comparable aluminum spars. The weight of carbon spars is about one-half the weight of aluminum spars, and carbon spars are considerably stronger."

"Carbon fiber tripods are lighter (by about 30%) than similar aluminium modes. They are also more stable at sub-zero temperatures."

Shell: Fiberglass
Chassis: Aluminum Space Frame
Weight: 1150 lbs.

Shell: Carbon Fiber (prepreg) / Divinyl Cell / Carbon Fiber
Chassis: Chrome-moly tubular space frame
Weight: 700 lbs.

http://autozine.kyul.net/technical_s...h_chassis2.htm

I found all of these at random sites on the net, over a wide variety of applications, from camera tripods, to boats, to cars. You are right about the expensive part though.

I'm pretty sure that what he meant by carbon fiber being the same weight is that most CF hoods we buy are only CF in the top layer, the rest is still fiberglass. Not much weight is saved
