Pettit '99 Front Lip Spoiler to fit '93-'95
Anybody bought the Pettit '99 front lip to fit '93-'95 models? Does this one have a perfect fit? Does the openings line up with the existing? It seems to be more expensive than the regular OEM which cost around $150-$200. Please comment.

I'm talking about the replica done by Pettit. Just wondering if anybody bought it. Hopefully this one fits perfectly and doesn't require any drilling of new holes and the vents line up perfectly.

I've purchased the 99-spec lip replica from Pettit a few months ago, and I am pretty happy with the purchase. It looks great on the car, but there are some downsides, which the guys at Pettit made very clear before I bought it.
First of all, it IS all fiberglass, so if you bump into a curb or something, it will crack. I'm pretty careful anyway, so I haven't had any problems with that yet.
Secondly, the lip came without the holes drilled! I was able to tell where the holes were, however, but it does require a little work.
In terms of fitment, if you drill the holes right, it matches up perfectly and looks awesome. I had an R1 lip before, and I believe the 99-spec lip is slightly higher and therefore gives a little more clearance in the front.

Sorry, but I haven't been able to get a picture of my car with the lip, but it pretty much looks like the one Pettit advertises (although the picture's kinda crummy)

It is, in fact fiberglass, and I'm assuming if the one the rx7store sells is around the same price, it probably also is fiberglass, but you should ask them to make sure.
Also from what I've heard is that nobody in the U.S. stocks the hard rubber type original front lip, so if you actually did want the authentic stuff, there's a indefinite waiting perdiod, I believe.

Quote---Actually I have a hard rubber 99 spec front lip. I bought it from Ari at www.rx7.com. I think Jason here at www.rx7store.net actually sells it for cheaper but he didn't have it in stock when I went to order it. Shouldn't be that hard to get the oem hard rubber front lip... I thought everyone had the same one as me, I never knew there was even a fiberglass version.
---------------------
The rx7.com website says that some modification of the 99 J-spec front lip is necessary to fit 93-95 models. What exactly did you have to do to make it fit?

Where are you guys getting that the OEM 99 Lip is rubber? Mine is a flexible plastic. I have a 99spec front end, so I really can't comment on fitment problems with the US bumpers, but what I can only think of, looking at both of my bumpers, is that it has a very MINOR different curve on the front, and may require a bit of shifting of the lip around so that it looks perfectly flushed with the US spec bumper.

I used the Mazda 99-spec spoiler on my 95. Yes, it's hard plastic, not fiberglass, and it does have a bit of give unlike fiberglass. There's really no reason to purchase the fiberglass version as fitment is just fine on non-99 spec front ends. It does extend beyond the forward edge of the wheel well by a few mm's, but nothing major. Some of the tabs don't line up and I believe two of the bolt holes don't line up. Just requires some drilling for the holes and removal of the tabs with a utility knife. Took me less than 1/2 hour to install it. Very functional, probably doesn't affect downforce much, but it does promote more airflow into the oil cooler and radiator vents. Makes the car look world's better than with the small touring lip. I have a Mazdaspeed GTC front end on the way and will be selling my 99-spec lip in one to two weeks if anyone is interested. Just drop me a private line at rx7tt95@aol.com if you're interested in it.

I probably shouldn't speak for Jason or the store, but yes, it's the real one being sold by the RX7 Store, not a fiberglass copy. If the guy doing the fiberglass copies for Pettit is the same guy I contracted to make vented hoods (for another car) I wouldn't buy it anyway. Crappy quality sometimes, fine the next but you can never tell. The guy is a jerk with a capital J too.
