Parking garage paint job

so since it is always windy here in texas and because i don't have a garage or know anyone who will let me use one, I am going public. to the school parking garage that is. I am going to find a nice spot on the roof or 3rd level to paint my car with rattle cans. I started sanding a spot on the first coat today with something similar to 3000 grain film paper, shiney bling bling from a $5.95 spray paint can. I am going to get a 2nd coat and possibly the clear coat on tonight. I have to be out of the garage by 12:00 am. hopefully the campus police don't give me any grief.

pics coming soon. BTW, has anyone done this in a parking garage before?

I've done rattle can w/ the generic $1 can high gloss black enamel on the side of the street. Both in TX and in North CA. Did both bumpers, hood, headlight covers and wing. Definatly not show quality but most people don't know until I tell them. It's all in the prep. Rough it out smooth enough to adhere and keep bugs and **** out of the wet paint and you're golden.

well, i had a run in with the arlington university police dept. they held me up for 45 minutes and i just got home from the interview. apparently they have had 2 major vandilizations in that parking garage within a year or so, each costing over 10,000 dollars in damage. the officer who came over to me was the same one who gave me a ticket two years ago, i took him to court, lost, and he remembered that. how amazing is that, this time i didn't get a ticket or any fines, and he actually seemed like a good guy. he was interested in what i was doing and what type of racing i do. he actually asked me if i street race, of course i said "no", but really i don't.

anyways i put on a second coat, which looks like garbage because of the 190 mph winds in the parking garage, wait...didn't i go there to get away from the wind? oh well, off to walmart to buy breakfast for the morning. i am tired.

well, after looking at the car in the light of day, it doesn't look as bad as i thought. i definately need one more coat of paint on the top. I started putting the primer and black paint on the sides. unfortunately i got lazy and didn't spend enough time sanding the spots before applying primer, so i will have to do it tomorrow. It doesn't look too bad right now but is noticeable. have a look see.

i'm going to try to upload the video of the police.

first he says, are you going to paint it all black? i say no. then he sees the red light flashing and asks me if i am recording him. then he preferes that i turn it off so i ablige him.

i can't get it online, it is too big- 4.3 mb. oh well.

I value your opinion, just as much as your great representation as a fellow new yorker.

when you want to get it painted by a pro he is either going to want more to remove that stuff, or he wont want to do it at all.

If all you were looking for was a pat on the back then im sorry and atta' boy to you and your concern for the enviroment and whoever else's car your paint might have flown onto.

i am not looking for a pat of the back, nor an atta boy. I don't paint around other cars, so don't worry about it getting on others vehicles. I also didn't ask for your lovely opinions, especially since it doesn't add value to this thread. please go away and clutter up someone elses thread with your profanity. I don't want to see it here.

how is posting pictures and your story of your paint job not asking for opinions?

oh thats right- its asking for a pat on the back-
Ok, good job!
Right on!
super!

if I ever came across a FC for sale with a rattle can paint job I would not even entertain the thought of purchasing it, you have killed the resale of that car.

I don't agree, here's why. I'm guessing this rattle can paint job is a temporary fix if it doesn't come out exactly as imagined. My buddy's FC was about 10 different colors, all parts from different FC's, so he decided to rattle can it to put his mind at ease, back to my point - the car can always get professionally painted at a shop, and still has the potential to be a beauty.

Did not read all posts but I'm hoping this is a temporary fix as puhpaper stated. Two problems, one I see the other a guesstimation. Sanding with 1000 grit sandpaper and then painting is not good. The paint does not have much to hold on to so, don't be surprised if it starts to peel off. 2, I'm guessing after a couple cans or so the paint started to look shitty because your finger started to get fatigued.

true, and at that time you will pay even more, if you could find someone who would even want to touch it at that point. All the old spray bomb stuff would have to be removed.

I guess saying another FC in the crapper was a bit harsh, but honestly what do you think of a honda driving down the road with a rattle can paint job ? You think its a POS and you laugh at it.

There has to be a place by you that does $199-$299 paint jobs, would still come out better and you could have it done in 2 days. Then again even that would have to be stripped if it was going to get a real paint job down the road. But lets face it- most of them never end up getting a different paint job anyhow.
