painting urethane?
can anyone give me a brief guide on what to be sure of when you have a body shop paint a urethane part (in my case a front bumper cover). i've had this repair done in the past on other cars and the new paint seemed to chip away very easily and looked like **** within a few months. i would like to avoid that this time around if possible.
thanks,
andy

urethane is the most tricky/time consuming crap to spray.
1) degrease the parts
2) sand them down to rough the surface up
3)degrease again and wipe down
4) spray universal plastics adhesive promoter (why your stuff was chipping/peeling is because you didnt have this)
5) sand lightly again
6) degrease/wipe down
7)use urethane high build primer, its flexable unlike acrylic primer which will chip/flake easily. Spray four heavy coats to fill in all the pinholes. (urethane kits are very porous((sp?)
8)sand down primer
9) degrease and wipe down to prepare for color
10) 4 layers of color (if pinholes appear after first base coat, let it dry, sand it down and apply more primer till they fill in, then apply your 4 basecoats)
11) sand down and wipe clean for clear
12) 4 layers of clear
----this is the process i used on my wingwest kit for one of my CRX's, worked like a charm, never chipped or flaked. Also, never ordered a damn urethane bodykit ever again, bodykits sucks, OEM baby!
