Painted Carbon Fiber Part

I was thinking of getting a carbon hood for my FC, but my FC is white and the hood would be the regular black carbon fiber color. So I was thinking of having it painted Noble White (Stock/Current color of my FC), but I wasn't sure if it would match well or not. Anybody done this or have painted carbon part? Pictures would be apperciated

My hood was carbon. I painted it white. It looks fine.

You do have to sand the clear coat thats over the carbon so that the paint will stick.

very nice work ice. i've seen some painted carbon hoods turn out horribly. yours looks perfect. i've been contemplating the same idea for a while and your hood gives me hope. i'm not a huge fan of black hoods on white cars (carbon or not). and have been looking over the idea of just painting but it seems like a pain to get it just right.

Check out any F1 car - they are 100% carbon and painted. To the painter, CFRP and FRP are basically the same thing- most carbon hoods and such you'd have to strip the clearcoat off it - something any competent paintshop can do with ease and SHOULD do during prepwork. if ordering one and its not in stock, maybe you can get it uncoated via special order? just a thought, might save some time...

Depending on how much you're looking to pay, there is one other option:

There's a process in which you can paint over the carbon (Using whichever paint you prefer) that makes it looks like it's painted from a distance, but closer up you can still tell it's Carbon Fiber.

Thanks for the comment. Its easy to paint carbon. Once a surface has been sanded the paint is able to stick to it. Easy as.

The guys that paint my car asked why I wanted the carbon bonnet painted. I said, "I bought the hood for the vents not for the carbon, paint it"

I know I could have bought a fiberglass hood but they dont have this design in fiberglass here in NZ. Only carbon.
