Paint Restore - black FD in the Desert

Guys,

So I just picked up a 93 Touring in black, and the paint on the fiberglass has seen better days.

What products do you recommend to try and bring the paint back to good shape?

The car looks okay at night, but in the day all the bumper, hood, and headlight covers look like ***.

The 93 paint was jacked. I don't think there is anything you can do to save it. They changed the paint in the 94+, because of this issue.

LOL. What product? Paint!

Simple, best answer: Paint Job.

Your in luck, however, since your car is black, you dont have to worry about the engine bay should you change color.

So choose a cool color, like IBM, CYM, or even Carbon Black (Deep blue/black from BMW), given..even if you have some tan on the interior it'll still match up nice.

It's really your only solution, touch up stuff and even painting specific parts will still look "mismatched".

In the meantime of a new paint job, a nice 3-step process would work:

1. Wash & Claybar
2. Wax
3. Polish

I've known a few guys with black FD's and they got the best results with Zaino on black paint.

Better yet, take your car to a professional detailer and have a full exterior detailing. I've seen cars that looked like they needed a new paint job, but had all the swirl marks and oxidation machined polished out and the car came out looking almost new. Cost is $100 - $200 and is worth every penny, not to mention cheaper than a respray.
