Arrow paint removel

ok guys, what is the best way to remove the paint, i thought sand blasting was the best way, but then one of my teachers said, its not good, because it bose on the metal. he even showed me how today it does it. he has a little sand blaster in his room.

am i going to have to sand by hand? or some kind of sanding tool?

this looks like its going to be harder than i thought.

Why are you wanting to remove all of the paint?

I've never done it, but I think one of those electric orbital sanders can be used to remove paint. Maybe a dremel can be used in those tight spots.

I've successfuly used lacquer paint thinner to remove paint in small areas. But the fumes are unbearable!!

I read that some professional paint shops use special chemcials to strip paint. Some don't sand blast, because sand particles tend to fall into cracks, and fall back out when least expected, like during painting.

yeah i used it on my rx3s engine bay and when im ready to repaint it ill use it on the exterior too. 2 quarts should get you through the whole car maybe even 1. the stuff works like a charm just park in the shade and be prepared for a huge mess of paint flakes. oh and makre sure you wear gloves. and get a plastic scraper too.

why do you think?

You don't need to take the car down to bare metal to repaint

You are going to have to take it down to at least the stock primer just to be safe, otherwise you could be driving and the new paint would come right off. But yeah use a D.A. sander and take the paint of with 120-160 grid D.A. paper. You then finish sanding with a 660 grit and prime it. then scuff the primer with 660. paint the car with probably 3-4 coats and that will take 2/3 a gallon........after that..enjoy

also sanding blasting can be used on rust but even then it will get in the car and everywhere else. it is just a really messy job and yeah you are right it is MUCH cheaper to do it yourself and sometimes you will get a better result. i painted my car and fixed all the door dings a small patch of rust and a nice size dent then painted it in a little less then week. working on it off and on

You can use soft-media-blasting, but not too many place around that do it and it is expensive. Just wet sand with 360 grit wet/dry. it takes about as long as it takes to wash your car 4 times.
