Scott, I haven't actually every touched a 99 spec lip to see what it's made of, but I'd imagine it's made of the same rubber-like material the stock R model lips are??

If so, in my personal opinion, if your car is already black, it's pointless/waste of money to paint the lip black too. Like everyone else said, it'll get scratched up and look pretty bad. Plus, even if you don't like it bland, you can always paint it afterwards. The opposite is not so easy (to strip it of paint).

When I used to have my stock R2 bumper, I LOVED the lip, cuz that's the part that would scrape all over the place, saving my bumper. It's incredibly resiliant too...cuz it took LOTS of scratches, w/o being marked up. You can't do that if it's painted.

Plus, if you like the clean dark black look, do what I did: when you clean your car, use tire shine on the lip...making it look dark and polished. Very clean, VERY pretty. Looks better and costs nothing, vs. painting it.

I'm gonna have it painted, and buy another one... might as well have them paint it when they are spraying the rest of the car. I was there yesterday hoping to see it painted and ????? it was still sitting there in primer. but the work they have done so far is amazing, so i didnt care it wasn't painted yet. Hopefully I'll be getting it back any day now.

Paint the lip and drive a bit more cautious. A painted lip on the FD adds just a little more classy to a already timeless car.
