Oxidized paint fix especially the red paint
Oxidized paint fix especially the red paint
OK first off I have to say, I'm no expert on paint jobs but I bought an fc with blaze red paint that was a bit oxidized and started searching for the correct or best fix.
I read where guys would buff out the paint which basically takes some of the paint off. Also some of these guys talked about how it didn't take long for it to come back and they would have to go thru the process again.
Then I read where this guy used Meguires Show Car Glaze 7. He put it on the whole car and did not use it sparingly. I think he used half the bottle on a larger car, maybe a Lincoln.
He left the glaze on the paint for 12 hours so that the oils would soak into the paint. Then he wiped it off by hand. Then applied wax. Forgot to mention, he went over the car with a claybar after a good wash to start.
Now maybe I'm the last guy to hear about this, but like I said, I am no expert. I thought this might save a guy from more work than necessary.
So I did this with my new to me oxidized fc and I have to say the paint looks unbelievable. Yes there are a few holograms and micro scratches but for a single stage paint, it looks fantastic and I am very picky about my paint jobs which I'm sure a lot of you guys are.
Now the big question is, how long will this last? I don't know yet. So there you are.
I will post pics later.

I don't have before and after pics. All I can say is mine was lightly oxidized but the guy in the article that did the Lincoln had pretty bad oxidation and it cleaned up nicely.
I don't think silver was without a clearcoat. I think only the red paint had no clearcoat.
Either way the Meguires will work on a clear coat, it just takes more than one application. At least that is what I read. You should just try a bottle and see what happens. If it looks better after one try, then do it again to see if if gets even better. The Meguires Show Car Glaze 7 has been around for like 50 years or more and the formula has never been changed. It does take a little work to wipe off. I will say that but it's not that bad.
