Swamp RX-7

Wondering if anyone has thought of taking our stock front bumper and outfiting it with the J-Spec 99 parking lights/blinker combo. I was thinking if it wasn't too hard, and too expensive, I would try it myself. The cool thing is you get to keep the urethane bumper, and not have the license plate holder on. What do you all think?

Here, I photoshoped it on real quick. The size isn't perfect cause the pictures are at differnt angles. I think it looks kinda cool, but not as good as the whole bumper.

The whole '99 spec conversion looks much better in my opinion and for the price putting those lights in a older FD bumper you could probably buy a '99 bumper skin(around $350.00)

How would you even go about making these fit in? Did you plan on just cutting the hole and patching it up with fiberglass?

I agree, the whole 99 looks much better, but I garrentee you are going to spend a hell of a lot more money on the 99 then just putting the lights in. You might be able to find a fiberglass copy for 350, but personaly I would want the original. Also you have to add the cost of the lip and bumper support. your looking at $1469 for the whole thing, including lights.

The front bumper skin is $343.10 , from www.mazdamotorsports.com and you don't have to be a member to buy it because it's a competition part. It is the factory mazda part not a fiberglass copy either. They are backordered right now though, in fact just about all the '99 spec front end parts for them are right now. So they are waiting for japan to fill an order and then another 6 weeks to get it here. I only know this because I called them about 2 weeks ago to see about ordering the stuff. They had like 2 right combo lights in and that's it.

The '99 combo lights in a '93-'95 bumper is a good idea, but you have to find a body shop willing to take on the task and do it right, pay for whatever labor it costs you and still pay for the '99 spec combo lights. Plus make sure that the stock 93-95 bumper reinforcment will fit with '99 combo lights being in it. Which I am skeptical it would. Most of our stock bumpers are wavy from heat damage and being almost 10 years old and have stone chips in them anyways.

Me personally I would rather order the '99 spec front skin, the combo lights(which Jason has for $340.00 a pair at the moment), and buy a '99 spec lower lip. You are at about $850.00. I would either try and modify your stock bumper reinforcment to work with the new bumper(which I think can be done) or for those that run FMIC's you wouldn't use the front bumper reinforcment anyways. You may spend a little more but it'll turn out looking tons better. As for the fog lights which are also included in that 1469.00 price, either get them later, or forget about them altogether. IMO

Your right on those prices, I didn't realize that the rebar was an extra 450. I have heard of people modifing the stock to work too. That price I gave doesn't include the fog lights, which I think are ugly. Personally if I do anything I would do the 99, it just looks so much sweater. I was just trying to answer the thread about someone asking what it would look like with the 99 turn signals.

I know that you were just answering their question wickedrx7, I was in no way trying to flame or saying anyone was wrong, just pointing out '99 spec vs. 93-95 w/99 spec combo lights. BTW, that was a pretty good photoshop job at least they have an idea of what it would look like.

It is kind weird, but I thought about this idea the other day, and then I get on and there is a post about it.

I think the main reason I like this idea is the fact that I would not have to spend $$ to get the plate shaved off. I hate the plate, and being in PA we don't need one. I think it would cost less to put the 99 lights in a 93 than it would to shave the plate holder from a 99. Plus, by doing the 99 lights in a 93 front, I would probably be able to do some of the work at home such as cutting the rebar if it causes a problem. I know that I could just buy the Pettit front, but I don't really want fiberglass. As far as the warpage of the stock front, you can pick up a nice one for only $150-200 most of the time if you watch. I think I covered most of my ideas.
PS. I love the stock front

Alright Touring, you're right on those points mentioned. Only you are allowed to do this, without me bitching at you.. j/k Your points were good though and I never thought about people not liking the plate holder, I guess because I do like it. But everyone has their own opinions on what looks good.

Sorry if it seemed like I was "bitching", I guess touring made me realize this but it would be a good way to get those beautiful 99 spec combo lights in a urethane bumper without a plate holder.

I also forgot that I think the quality of cutting little holes in the 93 to fit the lights would be better over time than having a hole patched in the front of a 99, assuming I shave the plate. You would just be enlarging holes already there, not trying to evenly add more material to a hole. From the stories I hear it is hard to find a good material, get it flush (well curvy ) and have quality good enough to last time. And since only a few have been shaved, and most within the last few months, there is no sure way to shave it yet, all up to whatever your body shop things, and I don't trust my car with anyone
