Question Non-metallic high gloss silver?

Hey guys

I searched through the few threads on the forum with silver FDs...almost all of them are either the stock SSM silver, or titanium gray, etc. Lately, I've been toying w/ the idea of switching from the stock brilliant black to a non-metallic, no flake, high gloss silver. I've always loved silver, but I'm not too fond of the stock silver. Not looking for a titanium or gray... looking for an actual clean, glossy silver. Probably a brighter than darker tone.

Reason I'm going for a non-metallic non-flake high gloss silver is, I want the incredibly crystal clear mirror reflection you get with a high gloss black paint job, but it kirks me out how much detail the black paint hides from the car. Anyone have any suggesstions? Be it a silver from an FD or any other car (actually another car w/ an existing paint code would be PERFECT, if I decided to use it).

Below I've put two examples of 1) the incredible mirror reflection you get with black paint, and 2) the crazy high gloss finish it gives. Can you get something like that with a silver?? I've also attachd a pic of an old C-West FD which seems to be close to that glossy shade of silver...

you can NEVER ge the depth and reflections with silver like black has. never ever. but its a hell lot easier to deal with since black reveals every little flaw (swirls, marring, scratches, dents, rock chips etc etc). silver tends to hide flaws very well especially swirls.

I understand it won't be as deep, but I think a solid color w/ glossy finish can give a nice reflection, no? And you're def. right..you can see every tiny imperfection in my black paint, which is ironic, b/c black also hides the subtle details of the car that I WANT to show haha

I think silver would be more reflective/glossy. Gray is usually a duller color, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh lol. I guess it's gray then... I don't want a flake b/c it greatly decreases the clarity of that mirror-like finish I'm going for...

darker tones should give more reflections than lighter tones. you can get some but very little reflection for silver. but if you do, you need to properly polish and wax it with a specific kind of wax (some waxes give more clarity (more reflections! yay!) or depth (not as clear but it makes it seem extremely wet and deep. almost like you can dive into the paint).

Unfortunately that makes sense. I gotta think about it for a bit...but really, my biggest concern is showing the details in the car, which isn't working w/ the black. Plus I've always loved silver. But giving up that mirror reflection is gonna be hard...

Ramy, your car looks awesome in that pic. I am gonna polish up my black FD soon. What about a gray/silver with a black pearl. I can look at what that might look like on my Juiced game for the X-box. That is a great way to play around with colors for the FD. It has our car and you can get base color, pearl color, and something else. Its fun. I just got an e-mail from a friend and it showed a Sheik with a pure silver Maybach. Unreal. It shinned like sterling silver with a deep mirror finish. I never seen anything like it.

NOT!!!! Look what I found.
Origins: The photographs displayed above are genuine, but they don't quite depict an automobile "made from solid silver." The shiny appearance of the Audi A8 pictured here is not due to its being made of silver, but to a customization involving a special polishing technique used to produce a chrome-like finish, for which the car's Dubai owner engaged the firm Motoren Technik Mayer (MTM), based in Wettstetten, Germany. The MTM web site describes (in slightly stilted English) the process used in the Audi's customization:

In Dubai the mtm Audi A8 polished was the eye-catcher. The car was analyzed and in many studies the enamel varnish of the aluminum car body was removed. Furthermore the car was cleaned. After that, the car body was polished with fine abrasive paper as well as special polishes to high gloss. The blank dress must not have any defects, because of the fact that retouching was not possible. Finally the car was protected with special clear varnish against environmental impacts.

Because of the fact that it is impossible to polish plastic parts like front and rear spoilers, mirror house, side sillboard or also fuel tank cap, they were enameled in a complex way to get a chrome effect. Finaly they were polished with clear varnish.

The MTM photo gallery displays the same three exterior photographs shown above, as well as three additional pictures of the car's interior.

Thanks. I love the incredible reflection you can get. But I've put a lot of time & effort into various curves and details on the exterior, that don't show up 99% of the time. Heck, unless you look for it, you can't even see my C-west canards on the front bumper, and the Mazdaspeed skirts in the rear flare out, but you never see that cuz it's always hidden in the shadows etc. In brighter colors (red, silver etc) it shows beautifully. I'm partial to silver, and I think the carbon fiber on silver look would look nice (right now I have a black on CF look going).

What about a gray/silver with a black pearl. I can look at what that might look like on my Juiced game for the X-box. That is a great way to play around with colors for the FD. It has our car and you can get base color, pearl color, and something else. Its fun.
Show me. My thing is, I have to see the paint on an actual car (not just on a paint sheet) to get a feel for how it would look.

I just got an e-mail from a friend and it showed a Sheik with a pure silver Maybach. Unreal. It shinned like sterling silver with a deep mirror finish. I never seen anything like it.
There was an SL500 at JGTC/D1 in Cali last year that was an actual CHROME color, but it had some oil based paint, so you'd get a little rainbow effect in various levels of sunlight. It was over the top. But the pic of the Sheikh's silver car is... hmm... not sure lol. Def. an attention grabber, but it may be too over the top. I want attention grabber but clean/classy look, not "I AM BLING" look haha. But I'm gonna think about it, as crazy as that sounds

And I used to have this thing for Strostek's Artic Silver Pearl. Sweet. But it's a flake... definitely no depth and minimal reflection.

What did you guys think of the C-West FD I posted in the first post? It seems to be a very nice silver, and if you see, in certain shades, it's got a tint of gray/blue (a darker tone). Looks real nice.

Heard of 'em...don't know who/where they are etc.

Email me that file cuz I only see one pic of the Audi.

Ramy, I got ahead of myself. That is the pics I was refering to the whole time. I thought it was a Maybach the first time I saw it. Its the Audi A8, it is fully polished. I know that looks like 50 cents car. Too much, but you wanted mirror. Here is House of Colours site http://www.hokpaint.com/. As far as the video game, I was just stating that you can see how it actually looks on the car. Its very realistic looking. The game is Juiced you can get it for the x-box or PS. You can drag and customize the car, FD, RX8 all of them. Its cool.

Yea that's the same I saw on the SL500 at JGTC. Too over the top. I'm lookin for a gray or silver... Still feelin that C-west FD I posted... it's like a silver that looks bluish gray in the dark... Sick. And the bluish/gray is dark enough to reflect
