I just got my new toys in the mail today. They include a LYNX 2000 alarm/keyless entry/remote starter, and a Keypad killswitch. The alarm is the type that has an LCD pager that alerts me if the car alarm goes off. If has a dual stage shock sensor, and sensors for both doors, hood, and hatch. I can also hook up sensors for glass breakage, etc. If you haven't seen this before, the car pictured on the LCD pager is a red FD. Cool, since thats my car!

The keypad thing is really cool though. Once installed, no one can start the car without first entering the code on the keypad. Even if someone finds the device, and cuts its wires, the car won't start. Very cool little thing. i'm gonna feel like james bond, having to enter a code to start my car.

Damn that keypad would be an awesome device to have!
Is there a way around it if you let some borrow the car though and don't want them to know the code??

Please let us know how well it works after you've installed it and used it for a while. Batmobile was looking into getting one of those, but I was doubtful of the paging range (they almost NEVER work @ the range advertised). Also, are you using a stock battery, or something smaller like a pc680? I'm curious how much it drains if the car isn't driven daily...

Yeah, when you stop the car you can hold down the * key while turning it off, and that disarms it. So like if you need to have someone service the car, or a friend drive it, etc. they don't need the code.

I'll let you know about range. They say 1/2 mile with no obstructions. I'd be fine as long as it works from in my house to my driveway. As for battery draining, I have the stock battery. But I can't imagine it would drain it anymore than a normal alarm. The only time it uses electricity is when communicating with the pager, which only happens if something happens to the car, i.e. lock or unlock door, alarm is set off due to break in attempt. It shouldn't drain it enough to cause any hard starting.

I put it in my hand for one of the pics to show size, but it's approx. 2" tall, 1 3/4" wide, and 1/2" deep.

Where do you plan on mounting the keypad??

I've got a couple of ideas on where to mount it. I'm thinking of mounting it in the little flip up compartment in the drivers side door. I think it'll fit in there.
My other idea was on the backside of the visor. I want to mount it somewhere where my passenger can't see it though, so that might be out.
It also might end up just to the left of the steering wheel. But in all honesty, I can't remember what the inside of the car looks like. I've owned it for five months, and it's been without a functioning engine for 3 of those.
It all depends on what the installer can do though. I'd like it in the door, but running wires back to the dash form there might be a bitch.

I won't have it or the alarm in for about 2-3 weeks. I'm hopefully getting the car back from KDR on wednesday, and I want to properly break the engine in before anyone but me touches it. And I know any electronics installer will at least rev it up a bit. But as soon as it's in, I 'll reply here with pics/details.

I gotta admit, the keypad thing is intruiging, but how does it work? I mean, how could you cut the wires and have the thing still do it's job? It would seem to defeat it's effectiveness if you could just yank that thing out and fire it up.

Oh ****, yeah I entirely forgot about this thread.

The keypad ended up being mounted just to the left of the steering column. But with one problem, I got the wrong code from asianwolf (the dealer). So my installer put it in, and wired it to make it look like it works, but it does nothing. I don't even have to punch in a code to get the car to start. So I contacted asianwolf, and I was told I could uninstall the old one and send it back to get a new one. And I still haven't done that.

I've sorta given up on the keypad thing. A friend of mine got one the same time I did, and it's more of a PITA than I thought it was gonna be to have to type in the code everytime you start the car. I might go through with it at somepoint, but for now it's just sittin on my dash taking up space.

And the alarm is awesome. I love it, it works great. The dual stage adjustable shock sensor took a little tuning, for a while my alarm was going off every single day until I could get it tuned right, but now it's all good. The LCD pager has been flawless (except for that time I dropped it in a dark parking lot and lost the battery, but we're not gonna talk about that).

The installer I took it to, which was a very small shop, the owner is the only one who works there, immediately knew what it was, how it worked, and how to install it. He took one look at it and said "oh yeah, no problem, where you want it mounted?" He didn't even charge me any additional $$ to install that, just the regular charge for the alarm. So I guess it's pretty darn easy.

I have no idea whats required to install it, cus I know nothing about anything electrical. All I can say is that the install was free with the installation of an alarm. So it can't be too tough or require more than a couple wire taps/splices.

And that was a kickass movie.

Do you have a turbo timer or anything else tricky !?? And does it lock when the car is still running ?? And Does it open / Unlock - and Lock your Doors !??

That site has so many alarms, how did you chose which one was better? Which ones have what functions? They're all the same to me right now except for the price... And how much was install?

The alarm actually has a turbo time function as part of it, though I've never used it. The car itself attracts enough would be theives, leaving it running and unattened spells trouble IMO. It can unlock and lock the doors, but FDs don't have actuators in the drivers side door, so one needed to be installed. The passenger door is all good.

An alarm is an alarm basically. They all do the same things for the most part. I liked the idea of having an LCD pager that would tell me when the alarm went off, and which zone of the car was affected. Very cool IMO. But they all have optional inputs for glass breakage sensors, shock sensors, and any other auxiliary things you can come up with. My installer charged me $100 to put it in, which wasn't too bad.

I want to purchase just that keypad. Do you by any chance know where does that hook up to? Is it directly to the starter or somewhere in the ignition? Also why did you say it's a PITA to have to type the code every time you start the car?

AFAIK, the keypad splices into the ignition wire, and you actually cut the ignition wire so the only way for it to start is by going through the keypad. But I don't remember anything beyond that. It did come with directions on how to install it.

It's not that much of a PITA, but it does kinda get old punching the code in. My friend doesn't mind most of the time, but just doign errands and stuff it's kinda annoying. Maybe I will have the installer put in another one that actually works. I don't know, I've been torn on the issue since I got it.

Just a suggestion... I rethink about giving out all the details of your alarm install... you should keep some of the info secret...

But what made you pick the $200 lynx one when there is one that is $100 and it also has a pager. I don't know what the difference is. Also, do you have keyless entry with that alarm?
