New rear speakers in FD - no midrange
So I've got a FD touring. Ditched the bose speakers and headunit. Put in a new Pioneer premier 880PRS headunit, bought some rear speaker brackets/grills, and installed a set of Infinity Kappa 682.7 6x8 rears. I've got a set of Boston Acoustic SL65s for the front just haven't made brackets/installed them yet. Now I know the system won't sound great without the fronts, but it sounds like absolute garbage. Very tinny upper range, almost no midrange at all, and the bass is something you feel instead of hear (just kinda rattles stuff without any tone at all really). Playing with the 880PRS EQ changes the tone, but it sounds awful no matter what. I was thinking about getting a set of baffles for the rear, but is there something I'm overlooking? Any ideas?

Get rid of the speakers in the rear. I can't speak for the speakers you have up front but I can say that I have a set of Diamond Audio S600 Hex series in the doors of my FD with 150 watts per side and I have no problems. Through all of the research I've done over the years I can't tell you how many people recommended dumping the speakers in the rear and just putting a sub in back.

Hearing proper sound from the rears in the Fd is a big problem.Tha rear speakers are not enclosed so there isn't any bass reflection. What is suggest is to remove the rear panels, and surround the speakers with bass reflex material. That will help but don't expect miracles.

i just did the same install in my touring model. oem brackets & grills and a set of kicker 6x8s, i was gonna replace the bose door speakers with a set of kickers aswell but they sound pretty good with the rears installed. no comparision to just running front speakers.

I Think from that problem he has, is probably Out of Phase
The bass is going to sound like garbage
On your headunit you want to take any frequency from like 65-80 hz out, Put on your high pass filter on and set it for a frequency around the ones I just mentioned.
You should be able to eliminate some of the distortion.
To check for in phase, or just checking any speakers. When the music plays or a bass note hits, The woofer has to be moving outward, instead of inward...
Now for the tinny sound, that depends on what kind of tweeter material you picked out on your speakers.
If your getting a Metal Tweeter, it's going to sound more tinny,
IF you get a silk dome tweeter it would sound more, softer and less tinny.
I don't remember what the Infinity kappa's were made from , I think the references were silk. But I don't remember it very much anymore. IT's been a year since I've dealt with them.
The Bostons should be great up front.
I'm going to modify and fiberglass the bose enclosures to fit 5.25 components to give it better midbass to give it an enclosure.

Digging up an old thread, just wondering did u ever figure this out? i've got an FD too, just installed some boston acoustics S85, not great speakers but should have ok bass.
putting my sound all the way to the rear makes me realise my rear's have hardly any bass in the rear..
i changed my headunit to make the rears a "subwoofer" and changed the phase to REV, (just to see if i somehow got the phase wrong. didn't seem to do anything. normal is very very slightly punchier.. (very slight)
So just wondering what you did to improve your speakers?
