I had a friend recently do redo my 94 montego blue fd in montego blue again.
i bought all new moldings, removed the windshields, had him sand the textured sides all down, welded the antenna hole over, various dents and dings, prep fiberglass pieces, scoot replica hood, and respray just the door jams. it costs me roughly $3,000.

Having mine done soon, blasting it bare, primer, sealant, spray and clear. All the trim is going to taken off, fixed and sprayed black, rims cleaned and sprayed and some dings take. Out of my drivers door. No engine bay unless I take the engine out myself and no door jams unless I want it. $1400 for all of it. Single stage paint but a 3 year warranty from all defects so I am happy since I have tons to do before I have a final product. Right now my paint is completely gone and spray painted in some areas.

I had mine done for $3k. I didn't do any prep work. I had my antenna hole and spoiler holes shaved, had a fist size dent reconstructed by the tail light, fenders rolled and a **** load of dents from dime size to softball size fixed with 3 coats of paint/clear. Make sure you research a good paint shop though. Mine looked great till a month ago I notice bubbles showing up. Now I live 3000 miles away and I can't take the car back for them to fix. When I move out of here I will have the car repainted again but I will have EVERY painted including the engine. I'm thinking changing the color of the car.

I haven't painted my car yet, but I have done some research. I think cost does depend a lot on where you live and local labor rates.
From what I gather, a good same color paint job is anywhere from 3-5k, and a color change is closer to 7-12k+, depending on the preparation and quality of the work. Of course, if you factor in new weatherstripping and moldings etc, and are considering upgrading to the 99spec look, it ends up being a really good hit to the wallet haha.
Again, I think a lot depends on where you live. I'd be interested to hear more from people who have actually painted their cars

My advice would be find a guy with a jet black hot rod that looks like an onyx mirror, and ask him who did his paint and body. Those older farts know their cosmetics like no bodies business.
Said 'old fart' showed me a lot about quality body and paint work back when I was a teen and 3 magazine cover classics later I painted my FC electric red. Interior and engine bay satin chassis black. All for 420 bucks. Of course it took me a month of weekends for the disassemble. which brings me to the next point. If you have the resources and space, prep your car in your own garage. Get her stripped down and ready to roll onto a trailer if you want that factory interior exterior job. Paint quality cannot be determined by price. Some brands of paint may actually be cheaper and be the better option for your application.
Also price will vary with which paint you purchase. Single stage paints have come a very long way. Eight years ago a friend had his '52 chevy pickup shot sunset green, and today is only showing minimal fading. which is top notch being that most 'factory' paint jobs fade around this time as well on average. of course this all assumes that she will never be garaged, or covered. Whatever you decide though, the person doing the work for you should know this and a whole hell of a lot more about quality finishes

It depends on where you live. I've been quoted at under 2k for my other car for a repaint and 3 - 4k for a color change minus trunk and engine bay with sikkens paint but I have no real idea about the quality. My grey FD cost ALOT to repaint + bodywork. They used spies hecker paint and clear coat with TONS of redone bodywork. The paint and bodywork alone probably was probably 7 - 10k.
Converting to 99 spec shouldn't be much more work at all btw.
