New Front End design ideas!

Okay I have had this in my head for a long time and i was wondering if anyone else has thought about this or actually done this to their cars...

Okay... I really like the 99 front end but i dont like the licensce plate...I have seen the Pettit Version with the shaved plate and even OEM 99 front ends without the plate Yet!
I have got to say this!! THE FD W/O Plate LOOKS Like ITS SMILING AT YOU!

Look at this pic that compares the 99 with the 93-95 and you can see the smily difference

You can clearly see it is smiling at you. I dont like that look. I like the 93-95 look much better, yet i still like the 99 front headlights. It refreshes the look of the FD...

Now molding it into our bumpers is a solution and indeed. It looks much better

New Here is my crazy Idea.....

Has anyone ever tried to actually flush the pop up light completly???? Can anyone do some potoshopping to see my point.

I mean the car looks amazing with lights down.. and believe it or not you can utilize a dual HID projectors from a BMW E39 and some mercedez models to fit right in the 99 Turn lamp housings! HIDs run much cooler so it wouldnt melt and it can replace the pop up lights...

Anybody can demostrate my idea with some photochopping?

It can be done. There is plenty of vehicles that are smacking the ground and their lights are at the same distance from the ground as the FD lamps are if not lower . The Koenigsegg per example

99 spec lights go on 99 bumpers

the old bumper needs a refresher too
trust me nobody complains about the car smiling at them with the 99 spec bumper get an emblem on it and a fmic that will solve your problem

US DOT laws require the headlights to be a certain distance from the ground (I don't remember off the top of my head what the distance is). Moving them to the turn signal area will be illegal as they would then be too low.

dude, excuse my inability to picture this but explain it a different way..Explain it to me like i'm a 5 year old. I remember you talking about this in OKC but still didn't get it. Somebody draw me a picture. Also, what about that dude you were talking about that's revamping the older parking lights?

What im atlking about here is:

To flush the pop lights....meaning you close the hood and all you see is the lines of the hood..and make the 99 lamps your turn signal and where the clear lens is. Fit a E39 BMW HID projector lamp that has high beam and low beam and is small enought to fit in there... That way the only lights you see in the front end is the 99 lamps (regardless if its 99 front end or 93-95 fron end)

It would be legal based on the koenigg vehicles(swedish cars) The lights on those cars sit a little bit lower than where the 99 lamps would be so it will pass DOT. and even if it didnt...Is not like you go to DOT yearly to make your car pass some test! It would be something custom you do to your own vehicle

Or you can simply do this if you want just an updated look.

I dunno duud. They're just headlights. HID this, flush that, custom this. Whatever they are just lights.

I don't think the idea of elliminating the stock headlamps competely and using "HIDs" in the turn signal is a good idea.

Whatever floats your boat.

I can't imagine that HID projectors are as small in diameter as the little lamps in the '99 turn signals... and you might get crap for them being so low (not from oncoming drivers, from inspection stations, especially when theres a pop-up door still there where the real headlights were).

David, that is the light i was talking to you about. Someone on the Interior/exterior mods is mass producing them and he is putting them up for sale in about 2 months or so.

But going back to my thread!

I simply wanted to see how an FD would look like if the pop up light were completly flushed and all you saw was the hood and for headlamps you would use small HID projectors installed inside the 99 turn lamps

Believe me there is small Projectors and HIDs in the E39 BMWs. People use them to fit inside integra lights which are the same size as the 99 lamp. which by the way! Integra lights sit right about the same height a 99 lamp would

and the mud clears! I understand. It would take some body work on the hood and both side fenders but could be done. We'll see how our photochop experts do with this.

But on a side note i am going to go look for those turn lights...damn, they look good...Looks like TTT lucked out and got the prototypes

DOT says the headlights must be at least 22" above the ground. I just measured my car (which is at stock ride height) and the parking lights are just less than 22" from the road. Obviously any car that was lowered would be even less.

Putting headlights in this area is illegal as it will not meet the minimum height requirements.

This is what you could expect since you would still have hood seems.

looks like @$$ IMO. Would be cooler to have the whole hood flush like the race car above.

Nice try, how about making the seems(edges of the hood) line up evenly all the way down to where it doesnt shows that there ever was a pop up light there.
I think the reason why it looks odd is because the seems still go around where the pop up lights used to be.
How about shaping the hood to where it matches the design of the car and yet not show signs of any pop up light ever being there....

and make another one where you just flush it all out like the race car.

Fujita Engineering, has a HID conversion available for the combination light assembly already, here's a link to a pic of it:http://www.pac-gate.co.jp/feed/fd3s/fog.jpg
