Lightbulb Need some suggestions (Painting Panels)

Well, winter is slowly on its way (even though we have a nice 70 degree sunny day) and I'm thinking of a few things to take care of while the car is up for the winter.

I'm going to repaint my interior panels. I've seen the pictures of the other FD's that have their panels painted gunmetal and some other colors but their interiors are black. My interior is tan, so should I just repaint the panels black or does anyone have some pics of interiors other than black with repainted panels?

I'm no artist, so I have no idea what would look good with the tan or if I should stay with black.

Thanks for any suggestions...

I'm having the same problem. I am planning on relocating my A/C controlls this winter or next spring. I really like the gunmetal look but I think it will look ghetto with the tan interior. So I will probably just redo mine black. But lately I have been thinking about possably doing it red. I dont think the red would be bad at all esspecially with some red seats like Sparco Torinos.

Just my $.02

Well, I won't be changing out my seats, so I don't think red would work for me.

I guess I'll just go with black unless someone pops in here with a good idea.

Thanks Dr Wankel. Good luck on your project!

How about a metallic dark bronze, like on all the new wheels? It would definitly update the look, and might go well with tan.

Something like this, except maybe a bit darker

Actually, quite a bit darker now that I look at it, hehe. Something that looks almost black from a distance, but makes someone want to come up to see what color/shade it really is...

Yeah, I agree. I think a darker shade of that bronze color would complement the tan interior fairly well... It's hard to be certain how it will look until you have it in the car though.

Oh,oh, and give it a satin sheen to it - to give it a brushed metal look. That would look really cool.

Can't quite describe the color I'm talking about - saw it on teh trim of some home stereo equipment at Circuit city, Technics I think.

Hmmm the bronze idea sounds interesting. I was also thinking about white faced guages. Do you guys think this would look like crap against a bronze background. Let me know what you think.

I was thinking about a Bronze color as well. I suppose if I do it over th winter, if it looks like crap I'll have time to redo it.

I've got it - the color I'm thinking of is black chrome. It's like black with a touch of bronze - except instead of shiny/mirror, in a satin/brushed finish.

oh heck, just rid of the tan interior, hehe! I've got a pair of black leather seats in excellent condition I'm gonna let go of soon. Meanwhile, back to cramming my Sparcos in....

I have a tan interior also and will be repainting everything once I get all the interior modifications done, ie gauges and such. That bronze would look good but if you swap out to white faced it might look odd if the bronze is to buttery yellowish. I'm thinking of going this metallic black enamel so it's got a little bit of sparkle like gun metal but black or montego(or what ever color it ends up). I think the Tan and blue/greenish look would compliment each other. Sort of a tan/white/chrome/blue motif. just some thoughts.

i saw one person that painted the panels w/ piano paint very glossy black. and if for some reason you dont know what gloss is its very shiny. it looked pretty good. not as good as the gunmetal but in the tan interior car it looks good. or you can do what i did and use sims vinyl dye and make all the interior black it works great and it wont chip off

mazda had a problem w/ the tan interior in the 3rd gens. its orange lookingkinda. not like a tan but more like a honey color. if i were you i would go to some new car lots and look at what they are doing w/ colors. me personally i am using sems dye on my door panels and i still have to find some good paint for the plastic in the rear. so im doing the gunmetal while i am moving my ac controls.
