My paint is starting to flake off, help!

It has begun! I have an 91 n/a, and the paint has started to flake and peel off. On the hood there is a spot that has chipped off to about a the size of a silver dollar. What can I do to stop/slow the peeling temporarily?

Will touch up paint work (I know the area is too big for a perfect job with touch up, but will it help?)

Unfortunately, a new paint job will not be in the budget for a while.

Thanks

touch up paint may help. If there is bare metal definitly put touch up paint on it or it will start to rust. Make sure you put touch up paint over the edge of the remaining paint, it may help it from peeling more.

Unfortunaltly is sounds like the bond between the paint and the car is breaking down, it which case there is really nothing you can do to stop it but remove the old paint and repaint the car, sorry.

Thanks mkoch1...I know that your very well respected in the FD world, but I don't know how much you know about FC's...and they are notorious for poor paint adhesion. There are many Fc's out there with this peeling problem (for some reason all the ones I've seen are white...just like mine!?!?)

I have known for a while that i will need to repaint.

I will try the touch up to slow the peeling down. How long does touch up take to dry? I hope it wont rain here in the next few days (although it hasnt rained in 6 months here in NJ...bad drought this summer).

if you are just brushing on thin layers of touch up paint it will dry in a few minutes. It will probably need 30 minutes of so before you would want to get it wet.
