my custom gauge pod

my friend is a special effects artist and he's making me a custom pod that fits where the center channel speaker used to go. it'll clip in like stock and will/can be color matched to my interior. this is the final mockup phase. next he's going to cast it in ura-gel and make the base. the little visors are to help with glare coming off the windsheild. what do you think?

Looks interesting, but you are basically re-inventing the wheel:

I'll bet your friends time is worth more than $130 + shipping. Find out how much he gets paid for his normal job, then see how much time he's putting into this pod. I'd be surprised if it ended up at $130 or less.

I think you are missing the point. His friend did it for him, I guess as a favor, so there is no cost and having his friendship is probably payment enough. Do you charge your wife to do things you would normally charge Tom Doe up the street for? Or vice versa? Sometimes money is irrelevant when it comes to true friends.

No, I didn't miss the point. I think you missed the point. He's saying he got a "custom gauge pod" basically "for free".

Nothing in this world is ever free. Someone "chose" to give up time to make it happen without asking for money, and that's fine. But that is still not "free". There are materials being used that were paid by someone (or someplace) and someone's time to do it.

I have no problems with people wanting to do their own "custom" work. People just need to realize you alway pay in some way. Custom does not mean free. Payment isn't necessarily in monetary units either; time is also worth something.

Because one person saved $130, that doesn't mean you can create the same thing and save $130 unless you get the same guy to do it for you for free. Even then, that guy is then "paying for it".

I never though of the total cost of all the duties women in my life have performed for me!

If I did HDP I mean common sexually related, cooking, cleaning, etc. I would maybe be up to say 250,000$.

Never the less nice gauge pod point.

It also appears to correct what I consider to be a fatal flaw with the Flyrx7 pod because it looks like it aims the gauges at your eyes, not at your chest as with the Flyrx7 pod.

It does have that molded clay "lumpy" look though. All in all, looks like your headed in the right direction. Good job.

the final pod will be molded off of the piece i posted. it won't look lumpy or clay-like at all. i had to pay for the supplies and a few other things, and to have a friend that's this good is invaluable. my brother's going to one after we et all the bugs out. the thing i didn't like about the pods off the link is that they looked a little too wierd for me. i'm sure that they're great units but not for me. i'm hopeing that we can put these units for sale maybe on e-bay or even here once we get it finished. i'll post new pics maybe by the end of the week with it installed. thanks for the input.

The original Tripower gauge looks better than all of them. It looks stock and suits the car and interior as opposed to the others that look like they came from somewhere else and were stuck in the car.
