My Alum Kit :->

talking about covering all areas..around the trim of the dash etc..ya i noticed that problem with the dash kits as well..so i just sanded mine down and then primed it and put the nice mercedes paint on it with a gloss ..cost me 50.00 thats nothing..compared to these dashes going for a couple hundred..and they don't look as good..a little more time is worth the outcome

I actually did the painting of the dash before I had a kit. It was painted grey - Well atleast a few pieces were just so I could get the feel. I did not like it after awhile. The reason I did not like it was because of ease of scratching, fadding in the sun, and the worst thing was the cracking. I even used flex paint from an auto store. I decided to put on the overlay bacuse of the silicone type material that is on top of the aluminum.
gmonsen2 - I think it is a type of metal because when I cut an edge I can see it. Kinda looks like aluminum foil type of stuff, very thin. Also you can't simulate the look difference between day and night with paint. The kit seems to glow when the interior lights come on at night - cause it to look 3D almost. During the day it just looks awesome. In my case I sanded down all the paint - both stock and non-stock. I then applyed a clear gloss to give it a shinny black finish. Lastly I applied the layover kit. I am very satisfied with the outcome. The quality of the kit is near perfect as far as fit goes.
Any which way you decide to go I wish you luck but whatever you do remove the stock paint before doing anything.
