Most Shock Resistant setup?

Listening to CD's on Michigan roads is sometimes pretty tough in an R1.

Granted the headunit is an old Aiwa POS that the previous owner put in that doesn't even play CD-R's and the reception sucks unless your within a few miles of the tower.

I'm looking at changing that out for a new unit. I could go a few ways, get a decent but cheaper head unit that had an input and put an iPod or something like that on a floating mount, or find a decent head unit that was very shock resistant or at least buffered pretty well.

I've got all my music converted into iTunes so the iPod idea sounds good but I'd like to see whats out there.

I'm not into a killer radio setup, if anything I'd like a little more clarity when driving on the freeway at 80 with the windows down that I get out of the current stock speakers with the Aiwa head unit.

Thanks

Anything new, that has RCA Aux inputs on the back, should do... Back when that thing was new manufacturers put the drive on a mini suspension, to absorb small bumps etc... these days, they have some memory built in and read ahead of where you are playing and if they loose a beat, they'll play from memory. Plus unless you throw the Ipod around it will solve all your skipping issues... Just find one with Aux Inputs and be happy

P.S. What I do is Look on Crutchfield, Good pictures of front / and back... check on manufacturers site for Night Ilumination Pictures if you can find them, and then start looking on E-Bay or Froogle for deals...
