Meguiar's vs. Zainos? A scratch/swirl removal question.
Okay,
From everything I'm reading, Meguiar's makes some killer swirl remover, but I normally polish/"wax" with Zainos products (which I love). My one year old paint job is starting to show a little scratching from general use and multiple washings. They aren't bad, but I don't like it.
Just trying to figure out how the Meguiar's swirl remover works as opposed to the Zaino Bros. Or if anyone has experience with one or the other, I'd love to hear about it. I'm ready to get my light scratching out, just gotta figure out which one to use for scratching/swirls (I'm sticking with Zainos for polish/finish/touchup)
TIA,
-E

I don't like Zaino personally, it takes way too long long to apply the first time, it's polymer based, not carnuba based. Plus the shine is not nearly as rich and deep as you would get with a real wax. Go Meguiars. That's what I use, I suggest clay bar then Meguiars swirl remover, then some meguiars show car glaze, and then their high tech yellow wax. There are a couple things better than Meguiars, but you would have to order them.
BTW ONLY use Meguiars Mirror Glaze or Pro Body SHop lines, do not use anything else by them. It has to say Mirror glaze or Pro Body Shop on the package. the only exception would be maybe use the Gold Class car wash, but nothing else. Those are for the casual user and not as good as the others.
BTW I detail a few cars a week and have tried lots of stuff, I kinda do it as a side job.

Also, for your scratches go with Meguiars Fine Cut cleaner BEFORE swirl remover. You can also go with medium cut cleaner, but that can be bad for your paint if you don't know what you're doing, you could take too much clear coat off. Fine is pretty safe. This will buff out most scratches, but you cannot do anyhting about scratches to the metal besides touch up paint.

Well, I'm pretty much hooked on Zaino at this point, but I probably WILL use the Fine Cut Cleaner and Swirl Remover from Meguiar's for the scratches, as everyone seems to recommend it first.
I appreciate the opinion 97GST. I have relatives in LJ.
Any other ops are welcome!

To polish out the swirls, try 3Ms Finesss-It if they are not to deep. Use a good orbital like a Porter-Cable variable speed with foam pads. If you do use a rotating polisher use foam pads and don't tilt the machine as you use it. And stick with the Zainom, with their accelerator it's no longer a two part process. And as you know, Zaino looks better and better the more coats you apply and it lasts much, much longer than wax and is far easier to apply.

I have to say I'm VERY impressed by the 3M Finish Restorer (got it from walmart and used it yesterday)...this stuff actually made my 17 year old pink/orange/and off red paint look like brand freaking new! I really can't put into words how good this paint looks now. It took a while to do (by hand 9:30 AM til 4:15-30 PM with 1 hour for some damn good subway footlong meatball sub goodness ), but it was sooooooo worth it. This car looks like a brand new car altogether. I wish I took some pics of before I did it so I could show you guys, but either way I'm trying to get some pics to put up after anyway. My hats off to 3M...glad I took a chance on it (but then again ANYTHING would look better than what it was).

I'm in the middle of using Zaino right now. I just finished my 3rd coat of Z2 (the stuff that's supposed to remove swirls). It may have helped, but it didn't work any miracles. I'll certainly try something else next time(probably Meguiars after reading this thread).
