mazda dealer installed my spoiler wrong, what should i do?

here's what happened-

i was lucky enough to find someone on the boards who was selling a factory spoiler already painted red so i wouldn't have to mess with painting. my car is a base model and it has never had a spoiler installed on it.

so anyway, since it didn't come with a template i wanted to take it to the Mazda dealer so they would possibly have measurements or a template lying around or something. of course when i got my car back, the spoiler was off to the left about 1 cm. on the left side the edge of the spoiler is on the edge of the trunk, on the right it's about it's about 1 cm from the edge of the trunk.

yeah it's not a huge deal, but if this happened to a car you just bought 2 weeks ago you would be pissed. i paid $72, 2 hours worth of labor versus 1 hour worth of labor i got quoted from independent body shops. THE WHOLE REASON i went to the dealer and not a hole in the wall body shop was so something like this wouldnt' happen.

when i picked up the car, i complained to the guy and he said that they could either knock off the price, or they could redo it for free. i told them i would come back to get it redone. however, if it's off by a little, what could they do? redrill other holes? they would need to seal it somehow right?

what do you guys suggest that i ask the dealer to do? my friend said to get my trunk repainted but i doubt they'll go for that.

They installed it wrong, they should redo it.

They will just redrill new holes. They may fill in the old holes, but that is all they will be doing.

I suggest that you have them re-install the spoiler properly.

All the dealer should have to do is elongate all the mounting holes 1 cm in the right direction. Put the spoiler back on but 1 cm to right. All the holes will still be under the spoiler so you wont see it. They should just stick a drill bit in the hole and move the drill bit to the right to widen the holes. No need to fill the hole or anything like that if it's only 1 cm off.

If you are worried about sealing/leaking issues just have them used some silicone RTV sealant around the holes. You should do that anyways, even if they had gotten the holes in the right place.

Damn, that sucks big time I would just do what Dom suggested and get it redone & have the old holes patched. It "shouldn't" leak (not like it rain is much of a prob around here).

If you choose to leave it as-is and get a few bux back, I'm gonna have to follow you around the forum and make fun of you

*which dealership was it? Not Browning Mazda, was it?

I just looked at my stock R1 spoiler and it looks like you might have problems if it is 1 cm off. Some of the holes are actually kinda clost to the edge of the wings bottom surface.

If it is off by more then a few mm you might just have to get the holes patched back up.

TUSTIN MAZDA WERE THE CULPRITS, STAY AWAY FROM THEM. actually, i guess what everyone says is true: dealers don't know what the f#ck they're doing. they're the same as any hole in the wall shop, except they charge more cuz their 'customer service' is so good.

rotor-rooter, no WAY am i gonna leave it like that and just take a couple bucks back. i was thinking about asking them to fix it AND ask for a couple bucks back. damn this thing pisses me off the more i think about it.

take it back and make them fix it or refund your money, simple as that.

If they fucked it up have them pay another more reputable (and obviously skilled) shop to do it.

Actually, if it's different by 1cm from side to side all you (or they) would need to do is elongate the holes 5mm, not 1cm, to split the difference. 5mm is only about 3/16" so it's not much, although I'm not sure how close the holes are to the edge of the wing though.
