CA Locating Rear spearker covers for a 93 FD Touring Edition

I am replacing all the speakers and the deck in 93 FD Touring Edition, but the original owner did not purchase the rear speaker option.

All that is there at the moment are some plastic covers that are not designed to hold speakers.

I have been searching and searching through the forums to locate some speaker cover replacements, but I have had no luck.

If anyone could help me out on information about locating the rear speaker covers for the 93 FD Touring Edition, it would be very helpful.

The touring edition has the bose system in it, with no rear speakers. (what I have)

From what I understand, the base and R1 versions had some simple rear speakers, with brackets for the speakers attaching to the body, and grills in the quarter panels. These show up used from time to time.

It's simplest to just use speakers where they were. I replaced my head unit recently (the Bose unit died), and put some nice speakers in the door. Sounds pretty good to me, even with the Bose sub disabled.

What are your goals with the new sound system? Are you replacing the Bose sub/snake in the back as well?

Mine was the same.. I took the bose system out the hatch and changed the head unit.. when I change radios the door speakers didnt work anymore.. I added speaker in the quarter panels wired straight to the head unit..

I am actually replacing the deck and the door speakers replaced today by my stereo guy. I am also having an 8" sub put in as well. I want to remove the bose sound wave system, but I don't know how hard that is to do. My goal with the system is to make it sound nice with a little bit of kick.

If you look at the speaker wire diagram (found on this website) you can actually use the existing wires laid out for the Bose system to run new speakers. Each door has an amped sub and there are two amped subs in that snake. That rear Bose plug has six outputs - two for power (disregard) and four for sound, left and right. Each door has a 4 wire plug - again two for power and two for sound. I used a Crutchfield adapter at the head unit and it's plug and play from there, once you figure out the colors and channels. It just seemed like a PITA to lay new wires to the doors - not much room to work with. Sure the wires are only 16 gauge but it's fine for my modest 40w x 4. I just put in 6x9's in the rear deck where the Bose holes were and re-used the existing plugs. I can just remove my rear deck and speakers by unplugging it.

That link does make me want to put the speakers in the rear panels though. Very clean.

I am going to take a printout of the diagram to my stereo guy, but it does not seem legible enough.
Hopefully it helps though so I can have a six speaker set up.

So it seems that my stereo guy will not be able to use the bose amps at all because every single one in the car is fried.

So where should I look for someone to make me custom speaker covers?

Well, you didn't want to use the Bose amps anyways, if they weren't fried to the point of not working, then the sound would have been horrible.

Some FDs have speaker grills and once in a while a pair goes up for sale on this site. I've also seen other members just put 6x9's there with their black grill covers and make it work. Your stereo guy doesn't do custom work?

Well, my FD did not come with the grill covers on the back.

As far as custom work, I have not asked him because I wanted to find the original rear speaker covers for the FD to keep the original look.

I guess if I have to have a custom piece made for the back speakers, then I will.

I could just look at it as a project.
