Since this list began years ago, alot of the seats that fit are discontinued. Probably could put a symbol next to those on the list for people looking to buy new, like me.

 

Seems like the seats from an ND Miata Fiata fit with some mods

Yeah they look like they could be a great option. I wonder if the butt drops down any.

 

The butt drop down feature would be awesome because my idea of buying aftermarket seats is not only for the bolstering, but a potentially lower seating position. The reason I stopped looking at Sparco seats is bc someone mentioned the seat sitting higher than stock on the Sparco rails, and that is not an option for me.

They're actually cheaper than standard BRIDE Zeta IV's here in America, until you factor in shipping of course. However, I ordered my HKS IC kit from RHDJapan and I don't remember the shipping being expensive, but MY GAWD it shipped fast!!

 

Yeah the only seats that I've been able to sit in super low is the stock seats with no or very little foam under the butt, or the Kirkey seats I just finished after modifying them to drop all the way to the floor. But these would be awesome I think, and they do look like the butt drops a little, although I'm not sure it would be enough, or that the drop is in the right location to be effective.

You'll have to try out these Kirkeys the next time we meet.

Damn, 22" at the shoulder bolsters?? I don't think that will fit without modification. That's crazy considering these are for the Miata.

I've always gotten stuff from RHDJapan really fast, aside from when the FEED combo lights got stuck at US customs and they were asking for an explanation on the usage of the lights.

 

Fitment in the FD will be a problem IMO. Recaro RS-G are 540mm at the shoulder bolsters and 465mm at the base. These MS Bride Zeta IV are at 560 shoulder and 460 base. I can see the OEM door panels being an issue. They do look pretty cool

So about that, how do we assume they modified these seats to fit in a Miata? I'm not familiar with the Miata model these came in, but I highly doubt they'd get rid of the door panel for some seats...but I could be wrong. Maybe these seats were modified for the car and just so happens they'll work in the FD? I'll have to do some more digging on that, although I'm not sure how much info will be out there for these seats.

There's always someone that has a weird customs story for you. "To use them as LIGHTS sir..why else would I buy lights from Japan?"

So this leads me to something I've been wanting to ask for some time. I've been keeping a log of seats I'd be potentially be interested in for my car, trying to compare the sizes to the sizes of the seats that are known to fit. My question to you guys goodfella and speedjunkies since you have been around these cars a lot longer than I have; is there a secret seat formula of dimensions (i.e. shoulder width that will/ won't fit, base, height, can't buy this seat bc the base is x and thats x mm more than it should be to fit and slide etc) that are known to fit or not fit, or is there different seat manufacturing techniques that seem to fit out cars better than others (outside of the obvious BRIDE is Japanese for Japanese cars). What I'm seeing is some of these seats fit, then some with similar dimensions seem not to fit. Then a seat with a wide base will fit but won't slide, then a seat with a slightly narrower shoulder width will fit. Seems to me like buying seats is a crap shoot for most part.

 

I suppose one could measure the stock seats and that would be a good guide.

Better yet, if some one could scan the stock seats and then scan the replacement alternatives and see how well the they measure up.

As posted above, I have SR series Recaro's in my car. This series shows up in the tuner bibles as a replacement seat.

The description in the magazines says "a seat designed for us Japanese sizes".

The SR series seats fit (sort of) and allow for up to 40" waist (alledgedly).

 

It's just crazy to me that these would fit in a Miata but not an FD. I would think it would be the other way around.



I doubt they modified them to fit in the Miata. I guess maybe the Miata just doesn't have the shoulder bolster limitations that FDs do. IDK



That's what I thought too. Although I guess they didn't know the lights were for blinkers and fog lights. Or maybe they were concerned about legality, but I wasn't sure why Customs would be concerned with that.



It's certainly been a crap shoot for me. Someone on here said the Cobra Suzuka fit, but they weren't even close to fitting for me. Even the much smaller HTE-R 400 had to be modified a bit to fit. There are a lot of factors that go into this. Which type of seat and which specific seat, which type of rails and which specific rails, which set of holes you use to mount the seat and if there is any additional layback and how much layback, how low you want to sit, etc. I haven't seen too many issues with the bottom part of the seat fitting, just the shoulders mostly. I even thought about just adding some bolstering to the stock seat on the legs and sides, but I feel like that would have been quite a bit more work than what I did for the Kirkeys. And these seats are kind of a bitch to get in and out of, but they hold so well and make a huge difference. So it's definitely a seat more suited for fun, longer drives than for running errands, constantly getting in and out of the car.

 

Has anyone here tried the Sparco QRT-C seats?

I see the Sparco Evo QRT seats are listed as a fit but only accommodate a 34" waist. I wear 34" waist pants but it's been my experience that seats that say they fit a 34" are uncomfortably tight for me. The QRT-C lists a 36" waist so it has a bit more room.

Looks like the shoulders are equally wide at 560 mm so not concerned there but am a bit concerned about a wider base.

I can confirm the Bride AIR seats, on the bride Type-LF rails fit perfectly in the FD. I love them, they were ~$3500 delivered and took 4months for the rails to arrive (theyre built to order in Japan).

 

Something I hadn't thought about before, but depending on how far back the seat is will also determine whether it fits or not, regarding the shoulder bolsters anyway. At 560mm wide, neither the Bride AIR or the Sparco seats mentioned just above would work for me because my seat has to be pushed all the way back.

 

That is a really, really good point that I hadn't considered either. My seat is somewhere in the middle, not quite touching the back seat but maybe a few inches further back than a true center so I suspect I'm in the same boat as you with a 32" inseam.

The last thing I want to do is buy a set of seats, go through the time and expense of shipping them only to discover they don't work but it seems like it may be a crapshoot anyway.

Very interesting. I guess my best bet would be to try and find a shop that carries the seat I want and see if they'll let me test fit it. Seems like a bit of a long shot but may be a worthwhile effort.

Having a 34" waist and even more broad shoulders are leaving me with some pretty slim pickings but I guess that's part of owning a car with a very tight cabin. Would be interested to hear from other guys in this thread who say a seat fits to see if it fits both closer to the wheel and further back.

Sparco QRT Perfomance seats do not fit the car. Learned the hard way and had to sell them. Base of the seat was too wide, hitting the door card.

Does anyone on here have the recaro pole position ng (fia) seats installed in their FD? If so do they contact the door panels? Also what bases did you use and how was the seat height compared to stock?
